People forget just how huge the original Top Gun soundtrack was. I wonder what their plans are for this new soundtrack?

Most of what I dig about the original is how tangibly 80's it is. Everything about it is like a snapshot from a moment in time. Like most Tom Cruise movies from the 80's, even when they were bad, they were enjoyable. I can't picture what this movie is going to be. Or how they can make it work in 2018.

Final Seven Cast Members Announced

Paramount/Skydance Media’s Top Gun: Maverick has announced the final seven cast members who’ll round out the sequel to the Tom Cruise 1986 smash hit which opens on June 26, 2020.

Kara Wang (Good Trouble) - Cast as one of two female pilots, opposite Monica Barbaro.
Jack Schumacher (Chicago P.D.) - Playing a pilot character.
Greg Tarzan Davis (Chicago P.D.)
Jake Picking (Blockers, Sicario: Day of the Soldado)
Raymond Lee (Scandal)
Jean Louisa Kelly (Ant-Man)
Lyliana Wray (CBS’ Strange Angel)

While most of these roles are being kept under wraps due to their turning points in the pic’s plot, Deadline has learned that Kara Wang of Freeform/Nuyorican’s series Good Trouble will play one of two female pilots in Maverick, the other being portrayed by Monica Barbaro who has already been announced.

In addition, Jack Schumacher, who has appeared on Fox’s Empire and NBC’s Chicago P.D., has joined the cast as one of the many pilots.

Hmm these aren't really dog fighters. I'm sure they could be BUT f35 are more about stealth and first strike.

As someone who got the rating of the Air Warfare Specialist in the Navy I have long argued that a 1 engine fighter for a Carrier Air Wing is a TERRIBLE idea. If the engine goes out, you have to ditch.

With 2 engines you can still limp back to the ship and recover the aircraft.

I'm skeptical. But if this causes Paramount to release a top shelf 4K UHD with immaculate HDR to accompany the theatrical buzz around "Maverick" then I'm all on board

True, I still listen to tracks from it. Though, the 80s had better music however I'm intrigued how this soundtrack will be compared to the first.

Did they say that's going to be his plane? I could see the main focus being him on the side of the old traditional dogfighters pointing out the exact fact that the F35 is not a fighter but with how closely they worked with the Air Force for the first film (and assuredly this one) I'd expect that message to ruffle feathers.

I don't know how heavily the F-35 is going to play in this new movie. But I work at the Lockheed Martin complex in Ft. Worth and Cruise came out and spent two days being filmed in our F-35 simulator.
