Plenty!

Let’s compare the daily boxoffice numbers of Maverick to Avengers Infinity War.
IW had about the same daily numbers from days 39 to 48 and it still made over 30 million more while it had a bigger weekly drop.
Maverick is doing these daily numbers right now at days 74, 75 and 76
The weekly drops are lower than IW’s weekly drops.

If it’s flying steady like this, it has a chance of beating Black Panther domestically by a few million.

Avatar is out of its league though.

I've never even heard of this movie. Is it good? Do you have to be a fan of the Dallas Mavericks to enjoy it?

As a 3D fan, I hope that you're right about Avatar, but I have my doubts. Avatar 2 is so far removed from Avatar 1 that it might count as a nostalgia market film, same as Top Gun 2.

Best outcome might be that Avatar 2 3D leads to Top Gun 2 being (re)rereleased in 3D. I believe Cameron's nu HFR 3D tech can be done in post so they could even slap that in, making the jet combat scenes that much better.

You'd make an excellent movie data analyst.

You must be still in quarantine. Do you have the Internet in the jungle where you live?

"This weekend Top Gun: Maverick will see its theatre count increase by a significant 421 locations for a total of 3,181 locations (including getting some premium screen showtimes back)." - Box Office Report
Those guys from BO Report predict roughly $7.5 million (North America) for 'Top Gun: Maverick' this weekend. Yesterday Maverick stands @ roughly $666.5 million.
Add 7.5 to that and you have $674 million on Sunday. That's roughly $5 million short of Avengers 3 (Infinity War). Guess how long that would take to surpass it; that's right before the next Sunday (21) after this one (14).

Then only $20 million to dethrone the beloved 'Black Panther'.
...End of September ... somewhere around.

haha thanks.

I've a more pessimistic calculation.

Let's pick the first under a million day for Maverick, Avengers IW and Black Panther:

Black Panther: Day 53 and it made 34 million more after that day
Avengers IW: Day 56 and it made about 23 million more after that day
Maverick: Day 76 and it has to make about 35 million more to beat Black Panther.

Maverick will make about 11 million in week 11 so the weekly drop is again very small.

$19,603,319 -19% week 8
$16,337,813 -17% week 9
$13,576,544 -17% week 10
$11+ million, at worst it will drop 19% and at best 18% for week 11

If it drops between 18-19% a week it might beat Black Panther in weeks 17 or 18
But truth to be told, it will probably drop more per week.
It's an interesting one to follow, but in the end. We won't get a dime from it, but at least we all got a good cinematic experience out of it

Few more points to consider:
• Labor Day long weekend.
• No good flicks for a long while.
• Tom Cruise & Paramount Pictures are well positioned for any boost they need; just like they're doing this weekend with the Fan Appreciation Weekend (adding IMAX & PLF screens).

@ first my prediction to reach 'Black Panther' was October 9 ...

But Maverick is such a phenomenon (considering that we're still in a pandemic; 7th wave), that now in retrospect of all circumstances and the state of the movie affairs in the world, including North America, Top Gun: Maverick could reach Black Panther around the end of September, debut of October. It will, it's a matter of when exactly. If I was in the skin of Cruise and the top Paramount's CEO, I'd make shure of that; even if Maverick have to play in theaters till the end of October.

Maverick is aiming for spot #5 of all-time Domestic, and it will get there.
As for all-time Worldwide it'll be spot #12
And it goes without saying ... inflation unadjusted. And screw inflation and all who are responsible for it ... I'm talking today ... with the actual reality ... global chaos and climate of war and hell and corruption and greed and power.

Our health is @ stake. Maverick (Top Gun) is the new hero in town. ...Figure of speech.

Because everything matters, including movies.
