I mentioned T E N Ǝ ꓕ because that's his latest and it was also released during the pandemic, that's all.
We know the score with Chris and all his flicks (Memento, Interstellar, The Dark Knight Rises, Inception, The Prestige, Dunkirk, ...); the loud music scores, the muffled dialogs, the flamboyance, the beginning's the end, the end's the beginning, the roof is the floor, the floor is the ceiling, upside-down world vice-versa déjà vu tra-la-la ...

Maverick is none of it; keep it simple during a pandemick...a winning recipe ($$$).

Both of my local theaters were still playing this so I finally went (people showed up to it too!) and goddammit, all of you were right: This movie is damn good, especially in contrast to the original. Some of the best action I've seen all year, solid plotting and a great cast. Seeing Val Kilmer again in particular almost broke me, especially after seeing the documentary on him last year. Hilariously enough, the screening I went had to shut down because of a fire alarm and thankfully, we were called out just before the film went to the end credits.

This is in Dolby Cinema at some of my local AMC's, so it's still making enough money to covet those screens.

In North America it's still playing in 2,800 theaters, plus or minus.
It's far from giving up (making $$$).
Besides there's nothing else exciting in theaters for the next couple months.

No it's not. Russia is killing innocent Ukranien citizens, and China is on the edge of invading Taiwan. Maverick has zero interest to play in those two countries, less than zero.
He just doesn't need their money to reach the top. His paycheck is already $100 million.
__________

* Somewhere between September 5 and 9 Maverick will be worth $700 million plus in North America.

Disappointing that they couldn't get this back on Imax, instead we got Rogue One which no one asked for

It's normal during a pandemic; most filmmakers take a break, except Tom Cruise & gang.
So what are they gong to play in theaters? You got that right; stuff that everyone saw already. Save your money and buy the biggest TV your home can accommodate.
Or, get a 4K 3D front projector, laser.

Exactly, the film was made before the "flood".
And that was the right move to wait instead of going streaming. Or was it really?
That was a very very long wait.

Anyway money is always important no matter in times of expansion or implosion.
And speaking of money; Maverick should hit $1.425 billion worldwide tomorrow.

I think Frozen II is toast. ...Couple weeks (Sept. 11)? ...September 18 fo shure.

Oh, and it's playing in 2,962 theaters across North America, and with some PLF screens.
It still packs lots of steam in its engine.

* What about Bob? I mean SMNWH; was it made before or during the pandemic?

It was released mid-december 2021 and now it's coming back to theaters September 2.
...To hit the $2 billion magic number? No, because it's a boring year @ the movies and they just don't know what to do anymore. Jaws, E.T. go home, No Way Home ...

* Yes it was shot during the pandemic.

Saw this last night for the first time.

Original one of my all time favorite childhood movies.

Overall relieved that it wasn’t terrible…pretty good movie.

But god, outside of Jennifer Connolly, the supporting characters and actors all sucked. Felt like a modern horror movie remake in that regard. Some of the dialogue was just bad as well. Maverick to Rooster before the final mission, “You got this.”

But it was fun to watch…and in some ways, that was good enough.
