Most of the time, I agree with this statement, but the scene where he essentially says to Rooster "Ha Ha! Your Dad's Dead! You shouldn't have any part of this mission!" with a big old shit-eating grin on his face bugs the hell out of me. I really wanted all the people holding Rooster back to let him go & say "You know what? You're right. He's a prick. Deck him".

As for the rest of the pilots, the first time I watched Maverick, I thought they were all a bit one-note, but then I went back & watched the original again & hey, pretty much all the pilots in that one have exactly the same level of depth (or lack thereof) to their characters too. It's kind of a perfect homage.

He deserves a special Oscar for that grin.

Agreed. It wasn't particularly boomy and you had to turn it up way louder than your standard movie to get the effects. Those jet engines should be blowing my walls down. The sound was just kinda meh despite having it turned up to -14dB.

Finally watched on Itunes. It lived up to the hype. Loved they included the Imax scenes.

I've heard Top Gun 2 has way more action/excitement than the first Top Gun, which spent way too much time in the classroom setting and land, instead of in the sky. With that in mind, I'll consider seeing it maybe Saturday for $3 after Jaws 3D.

This film is so darn popular it's rescued Cruise's The Mummy from oblivion. Apparently it's one of the top streaming movies currently on Netflix UK

That's not what I meant. I'm talking strictly numbers here.

And I'm glad it's not playing in those two countries; Hollywood doesn't need Russia and China right now. It's very good that Maverick is taking a break from them.
