Steelbook. All. The. Way. I’m so excited!
Also it’s hilarious how this preorder has gone live earlier than Universal’s Hitchcock release coming out a month sooner lol |

I bet they were going to get limited theatrical runs before the pandemic and that's when Universal springs for Dolby Atmos remixes. When they are home video remixes, Universal goes with DTS: X. |

It might’ve been Amblin’s call over Universal considering Jaws is a recent Dolby Atmos + Vision release.

There was talk that Jaws, too, was getting a limited theatrical run. Again, the pandemic got in the way. That way Universal could use the theatrical Atmos master Pro Tools session as the basis for the home video audio track rather than having to do two separate remixes. That's their MO and it has been pretty consistent. If they had a Dolby Atmos theatrical track master to work with, that's what would normally be put on disc. If they didn't, it was a simpler DTS: X track for home video. Dolby Atmos requires more prep time since that immersive format can use audio objects, and then you have to cull the archival stems to figure out what goes in the bed channels and what individual dialog track or sound effects get encoded and placed as 3D objects (sometimes music too if the individual instrument mike stems are available). After that Atmos is actually easier to work with than DTS:X in Pro Tools or Fairlight or other DAW workstation that is Atmos compatible. Last edited by FilmFreakosaurus; 07-27-2020 at 04:12 PM. |
