Well done. And if this release has DNR or EE, you're going to see some serious $h!t.

I didn't say that factory workers were taking out all their frustrations on these poor defenceless discs, they're treating them like shit because they're not paid enough to do anything else, so they're shoving them into these sleeves without a care in the world and they're scratching them along the way.

To that end, no-one said that their discs ended up looking like they've been attacked with a cheese grater but that's one of the enduring myths about Blu-ray, that with the anti-stratch coating it's somehow invulnerable. That's a negatory, as because the data is so tightly packed (even more so on UHD) and so near to the playing surface then even what look like minor scratches can and do cause playback problems for some people. Yes, people can send back damaged ones but now you're shifting the goalposts (yep, you're definitely gonna fit in well around here), because if this packaging didn't do this to discs in the first place there's be no need to send anything back.

Obviously it's not a big enough issue for the likes of Universal to stop using this goofy packaging as clearly they can't get enough of it, but that doesn't mean people aren't having problems with it. If you don't then that's great and I mean that very very sincerely, but you'll just have to put up with the rest of the OCD types going on about it.
Fair on all points. I'll just say that I've been lucky to have very few issues with packaging and any damage done to individual discs. If others can't say the same, that really sucks. I suppose it's futile to basically complain about the complainers as well haha. I'm OCD myself, so I do understand the issues some have had; it's just something I haven't seen personally.

Maybe we can all agree that on the front of the Hoverboard packaging, Marty looks as if he's in the middle of a coke binge

I upgraded the entire set because I also wanted the bonus disk and digital copies of the trilogy along with the animated series. Considering I got the whole thing for $20-25 on an Amazon deal and later sold my 2011 set for $15, I think I made the right choice there.

Awful artwork, and the "collectable" hover board looks like Barbie junk! I'm going to stick with the 25th Anniversary blu ray set until a single 4K release of the original Back to the Future (Hopefully with original poster art) is on the market. I know. Don't hold your breath. Seriously though, I can understand the inclusion of the inferior sequels in the artwork, but that is a total cheesefest they have going on. How come Jaws fans can get a cool looking 4K release of the original without being forced to buy Jaws 2 and Jaws 3D yet, Back to the Future is Trilogy or Nothing!? But I digress.

Going by every other major 4K catalog thread on this forum, at first 99.9% of everyone here will think this release looks magnificent. That will last for about half a page until 1 or 2 people get worked up over a few compressed screenshot comparisons. Then conversation will quickly devolve into debate/dramatics for 80+ pages with some demanding a recall and others insisting the movies look best on laserdisc with the color dialed up to 70. In the end we'll all (mostly) agree that it looks very good despite certain caveats before moving on to debate the next major disc from Universal.

I try to avoid these sets like the plague but of the few I've had in recent years like the Spider-Man (Maguire) 4K set and the Fast and Furious 8 movie set there were scratches already present on several of the discs, bought brand new and factory sealed. They didn't personally cause me any playback problems but different players have different tolerances, so when other people say that they've had a litany of playback issues with sleeved discs then I've no reason to disbelieve them or automatically assume that they're treating the discs like crap.
how can cardboard paper scratch blu-ray discs? the coating has a much higher hardness rating than cardboard (although I suppose it wouldn't be the first time a company has stretched the truth, but even if they exaggerate about the coating, still, cardboard is sooo low down on the hardness scale)

maybe they live near the beach and have sand all over the place?

whoa, that's insane
how could he handle that?
a TV show alone often has 14-18 hour shoots day after day and same for many movies, just being a star player in one thing at once can be exhausting, not like he was a minor side player in either

I have had no problems with this type of packaging personally but most people here do seem to have had.

Not at you specifically but why do some of you who have been lucky enough to get away with what most have trouble with then act like the majority must be talking out of their asses? The self adoration on this forum is strong in many of you.

I am of the opinion that the hard coating on discs has been cheapened over the years and is not as effective as it once was.

With 2+ months to go before release I don’t see the problem, putting the listings up the week before would be just fine IMO.

My two cents -

The issue I have with sleeve style packaging is only that the design flies in the face of common sense. We're dealing with optical discs. I've been a collector for a long time and I just don't like anything touching the playing surface. In much the same way that I don't want someone placing a disc of mine face down on a table while they're looking for the case to put it in. I don't care if it's the cleanest, smoothest table in the world....turn the disc face up

I'll absolutely concede that protective coating has come a long way in recent years and is far more resilient so nowadays the risk of problematic wear is minimal. Much of the hatred for cardboard sleeves no doubt comes from the DVD days when cardboard boxsets were breeding grounds for scuffed discs that would skip and glitch like mofos. Blu-rays are bulletproof in comparison.

Anyway, there are a whole bunch of elegant designs out there that hold the disc's playing surface away from that which surrounds it. To steal a quote from the Six Million Dollar Man - "We have the technology"

Universal has a pretty low bar to clear with the BTTF blu let's hope they at least make a clean run with that one. The Thing (Shout/Arrow) I also think will be fairly easy to beat as long as they don't get DNR happy. American Werewolf (Arrow) will probably be the hardest to top of the 3.

Argh, wish Target had put this listing up earlier, wasted my buy 1 get 1 50% off today on Home Alone. Hopefully the BBY steelbook set gets a significant price reduction while it's still eligible for adjustment.
