Not really. While it wasn't cheap, none of the ILM VFX or other post production was affected - they just reused the existing locations and sets. It's not like today where unscheduled reshoots cost a ton more due to VFX/editing/union fees.

It almost makes it seem like Crispin Glover was correct in saying that they are liars.
Crispin is a nutter though (and by his own actions, not studio PR). I take anything he says with a huge grain of salt.

Yeah, they didn't shut it down for months on end while they retooled it, they just parachuted MJF in and started over, re-using whatever they could. And it helped that MJF was pulling double duty, shooting the sitcom by day and BTTF by night, you don't really see people doing that any more.

As I understand it, everything but the picture galleries are carrying over to the 4K disc. The picture galleries stay on the standard blu-ray format.

Totally didn't need the tagline at the bottom, but nice effort in combining all three posters.

It honestly wouldn't surprise me if this was how they operated their home video department.

Employee: Okay, Eledor, time to present us with your Back to the Future mock-up!

That custom cover does look good. I've always used the art from the DVD of the first movie, cut strategically to fit the Blu-ray case. The front and sides look great, although the credit block on the back is chopped. But no matter; I never really look at the backs.

When this new trilogy set arrives, I'll simply transfer that same custom-cut DVD art over to a black UHD case. The first movie is the only one I like (and it's one of my all time favorites), so I only keep that one on my shelf and store the others away for a rainy day... but I can't honestly remember the last time I watched Parts II and III. Looking sooooo forward to this new transfer!!! Just bummed I have to buy SO MANY DISCS to get the single one that I want, cuz I don't care about extras, either.

Joking aside, I think it was Drew himself who said that the studios' focus groups are telling them that people don't like all that silly old-fashioned artistry and that they much prefer modern photoshop monstrosities on their posters. It's only natural that that attitude would extend to the home video art as well, though if the image of the Italian foldout digipak is correct then it'll have the OG posters underneath the clear hubs. Which is nice.

The people in these focus groups ought to do penance for their crimes.

(By the way, I was talking to Drew Struzan on Twitter semi-recently and I think I inadvertently offended him. LMAO).

What the indies do, the studios sometimes follow. Look at Sony with the Mask of Zorro: gash new art on the slip, OG art on the inner case.

But hey, why put the poster art on the first release when you can do it on a limited edition steelbook later on?

2015 Target exclusive is one of my all-time fave steelbooks.
4 disc without any overlap or stacking. Proper tray on a hinge in the middle as it should be. I didn't have the prior release though so it was all win for moi!
