Watched it tonight, and there was some improvement over BD, but not a whole lot. In fact, watching it in DV had more black crush compared to the BD, and also more crush than the HDR10 version when forcing my OPPO 203 to play it as HDR10. In the end, I preferred watching the BD version on my OPPO 103D due to the lack of black crush.

Not saying I know either way as I haven't seen it, but some of those lost details might not have been meant to be seen? There are other UHDs like The Expendables or I Am Legend where a lot of detail is lost to black but people generally agree the BDs were raising black too much and revealing stuff never meant to be seen.

That's a valid point. 99% of the time I prefer HDR over SDR. It also could be the fact that DV can not be calibrated on my E6, and the tv is doing the crushing in the near black. Nothing I can do about that. If I raise the brightness 1 click, the black bars become elevated.

Often times extended cuts are finished at a lower resolution, which makes them look worse on a future format. Other times the studios just want to hold them for a future double-dip. There are probably other times where the movie just isn't considered worth the effort. Hard to say which is which really.

I watched both. IMO, the UHD is not a significant improvement over the BD. Better yes, but not a lot.

Source must be fairly soft - those screen caps are almost identical as far as sharpness/detail. Color / contrast is better on the UHD...
Not much of an upgrade. Gotta be the source, or a botch job.

Lionsgate are known to applying some sort of high frequency filtering on select titles:

1. 3:10
2. Dredd
3. Source Code

Maybe they did on this as well.

Nonsense. They aren't known for that. 2 are very early releases and Source Code looks excellent for the most part. They have been doing a very good job, much better than what they did with their BD catalogue in the beginning.

Caps can be useful but are inherently flawed for numerous reasons, SDR conversion being the most obvious one. I do trust certain forum members' words more than I trust caps.

Never seen this one before but I liked this one. So rare nowdays to find a decent R rated movie. Guess they don't make them like that anymore.
Decent transfer. Just don't think this one was ever meant to be a stunner visually.
Grain is well resolved for the most part. Good black levels. It's quite a desaturated look in this one so not much in terms of great colors. No reason not to upgrade if the price is right.
