I hate to be that guy but I’m having trouble understanding whether or not this will affect me (I’m still learning). I have an LG OLEDC6V and UBD K8500 (don’t judge me!), i.e. not DV ready just yet... Will I have to adjust any settings for this 4K disc, and will there be issues that simply can’t be fully solved, with my current setup?
Some context: I’m torn between a perfect 3D Steelbook, and a 4K + 3D Steelbook with French writing on it, so it won’t take much for me to drop the 4K option.

Agreed, it's not just the high peaks but the very high average brightness that's making it look so blown out, I remember hearing the exact same complaints about Sony's Starship Troopers (not so much on here, over at AVF when I still bothered to post there) because that's also got MaxFALL at well over 2000 nits with MaxCLL at over 4000 nits. Sony's Spider-Man (the first Raimi one) is another example.

Then I guess I now kind of know what to expect with The Meg? I mentioned here some time ago about how I thought Starship Troopers at times looked overly bright, especially during some of the earlier daytime scenes. Spider-Man is bright too but I didn't have a problem with that.

Odd that the Dolby Vision isn't able to override this though, according to most user reports, so the metadata must also be incorrect there as well. Should be v.interesting to compare la Dobly with my 2000 and 4000 nit modes.

If DV is implemented properly, it should help for sure. The display should be setup for the best reproduction the display is capable of. But I haven't tested it with DV.

Starship Trooper is definitely another great example of this same issue. I'm working with Lumagen right now on some upcoming tone map stuff and these are two titles I'm going to be using quite a bit for evaluation.

My display is older now and far from perfect but it's always been noted as having great tone-mapping and I've never had a problem with 4,000 nit titles. That said I don't have Geoffy Vision, just an Urban Junior Achiever's badge.

Nobody has Geoffy Vision. You have to be a 10th level Zen master to achieve Geoffy Vision. But don't listen to the studios. They will tell you Geoffy Vision doesn't exist. Like Climate Change.

Ooh that's tempting as I did want to check out the 4K too. What's weird is that only the artwork for that steelbook shows 3D, it doesn't appear to be mentioned in the title on Amazon France or the description.

They'll have to get approval from MGM and we all know how they can be with home video releases.

Yeah it’s too messy to trust as far as I’m concerned, I’m planning to contact WB France later this week.

Basically Amazon France have 3D on the picture of the Steelbook, but otherwise make it clear it’s only 4K + 2D.

https://www.amazon.fr/MEG-SBK-Ultra-Blu-ray-Digital/dp/B07HGNRCXH

Meanwhile, FNAC France have the same product listed (i.e. no exclusives), but the photo excludes 3D, while their product page+title clearly state that the 3D is included.

https://video.fnac.com/a12864634/En-...ham-Blu-ray-4K

Neither are reliable, and either way you’d have grounds to get a refund. So far what I can tell you is that the image showing 4K + 3D emerged many weeks after the only-4K image, which was first up everywhere and then replaced on Amazon.

Watched this last night and was quite impressed how it looked in DV on my OLED tv. One of the better DV presentations I own. A rather silly movie though.

Watched this yesterday, and the HDR and picture quality were awesome. The movie itself, is not the best, but with so many highlights and colors... it's definitely a worthwhile 4K disc

I watched the 3D disc a couple of days ago (3D was good btw), and I liked the movie better than the first time I saw it at the cinema. It's nothing special and could easily have been better (damn that PG-13 rating!), but it's still enjoyable, mindless popcorn fun.

Still waiting on my 4K to show up...
