I really enjoyed visiting 2 again. That last fight scene still holds up well.

Done with M:I the first and i'm very taken with this one. IMHO the boys at Paramount have done a bang up job here. Not a huge bump in resolution but there's bountiful grain, the contrast is excellent and it has a richness lacking from all previous home video incarnations. I dare you not to smile a little smile when Ethan approaches the restaurant/aquarium to meet Kittridge after the operation gone wrong. A wide array of nicely saturated colours on display - torches burning, the blue neon sign, fish tanks, the waiter's red jacket against the green curtains.
There are some parts that look less than stellar but i'm pretty confident that stuff is inherent to source. Soft shots in a Brian De Palma film is nothing to start whining about. Anyway. I must now brace myself and dive headfirst into.....Mission Impossible II ![]() HDR10/65"X900E/UBP-X800 |

I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but Google Express has the first 3 films, shipped from Fry's, for about $22 each. They are cheaper if you do not pay sales tax. I ordered mine last night and they shipped this morning. They will be here on Tuesday. BBY is sold out and will not have store stock till probably late next week or possibly later. Other retailers are pretty much sold out too. Just a tip for anyone that needs the first 3, as I got the last 2 from BBY.

Paramount have really outdone themselves with these UHD's. Absolutely fantastic work all around.
Hopefully these weren't a fluke and we'll get more solid discs like these in the future. |

Have MI 1 on internission needed to throw a pizza in the oven.
Mentioned it before but I dont have a 4K TV just the player causs I needed one of those OPPOs before they were gone and I can finally take advantage of Atmos audio more so with 4K discs they just down rez to 1080 on my plasma ... and I love my plasma and 3D options too much to buy a 4K set yet. So anyhow holy crap does MI 1 looks great even down rezzed! Awesome film grain and finally FINALLY a real HD Audio track! It really is like watching the movie anew again after so many years. I just love Danny Elfman’s score for this and IMO its his most UN-Elfman sounding score during this period. I just wish someone would release an expanded score album for it. |

Paramount has done a very good job with their UHD releases. There might be the odd average release but the majority of what they're putting out has been pretty damn good and along with Sony, I can buy their UHD's with confidence.

My copies just showed up, they shipped them in a small box about the size of the cases, with no room to bounce around. No loose discs, no crushed slip covers, nothing was even bent. A+ Best Buy, good job. Now we just need Paramount to follow through with MI: Fallout on the artwork.

![]() They seem to be pretty consistent on quality. 1, 2, and 4 are native 4K, and look really good, 4 it seems looks astonishing. 3 and 5 are 2k up-scales, and look better than the Blu-rays, mostly through the HDR coloring. I would be watching them but I am working on the final project for my summer class. |

Watched Ghost Protocol.
Maybe it's my settings. It seems to crush the blacks a little in some scenes and at times the grain looks like busy little ants. For the most part it looks good, but this was a little distracting to me. |

M:I looks damned fine in 4k. Other people have already said what I would mention, such as: Wonderfully natural fine grain; the color is wonderfully even and balanced; detail is crips; HDR does a great job boosting contrast and lighting without going overboard. This is a beautiful transfer that shows off by how faithful it is, with wonderful clarity.
As for the movie itself: It is fun. A little overlengthy, but I like that it does a fine job playing up a "modernized" version of the TV series. The gadgets are cool. Isn't it weird how much has changed in 20 years? No more CRT monitors. Laptops that aren't as thick and cumbersome. No one uses TAPES anymore. A pay phone booth, wow. Headphones that were used for walkmans? Wow. This whole e-mail process is so advanced. State of the art! A communicator watch. Awesome. Fingerprint ID is soooo advanced! Probably my favorite line: "Thinking machine laptops. I'm talkin' about the 686 prototypes with the artificial intelligence RISC chip." haha, a "686". Damn Intel decided to name things "Pentium" instead going above the "x486" name classifier. And RISC? They mentioned that same core in the movie "Hackers", and also didn't mention what it was really used for. I love it! Tom Cruise is so young! Last edited by KcMsterpce; 06-30-2018 at 04:06 AM. |

The only thing that kinda hurts the first M:I for me is the insane leap of logic that has to be taken to link - geeze, has the spoiler statue of limitations expired on this one? Just in case... [Show spoiler]

![]() I'm glad I don't worry about such a thing, since my OCD does not involve the need for releases within a franchise to match each other's artwork. ![]() |
