Ghost Protocol looks stunning.
See Paramount you can if you try hard enough.

I'm into the first movie now and you weren't kidding. Looks absolutely cracking. Very rich with some impressive black levels as well.

It’s a shame the box set is a stripped down version, but at Ł69.99 it’s still great value for all the films in 4k. Would have been nice to have digital copies to sell to keep the cost down further.

Thanks. I assumed there was a financial component, but what a wasted opportunity. Plus of course the obvious: that it makes absolutely no sense releasing the old encode BD of I, II, and III in the 4K sets when they were so poorly received in the first place.

More like they didn't have to try too hard with that one, it's a very recent film with a 4K finish so they didn't have to **** with it.

That hasn't stopped any of them before.
Bit the set in general shows up their other mess ups.
Now let's see then screw Trek again.

I know it's not a guarantee but it really does give them less of an excuse and that's the reason why BDs and UHDs of new-release films from the likes of Paramount and Universal are as good as those from any other studio, better even considering how Fox's BD compression has gone downhill recently. But something seems to happen when dealing with older films, films with purely photochemical sources, it seems to overrun the minds of the people handling the remasters at Uni and Par and it always has done. Seems to just be dumb ****ing luck if/when a new film-sourced UniPar transfer makes it through unscathed. Tomb Raider '01: We ain't gonna fudge with this one. Grease: Let's DNR the shit out of it.

I enjoyed watching this franchise over again; it made me appreciate the second more and I like all of them near-equally now.

Same thing happened to me with the Men in Black trilogy recently. The second felt elevated from what I remembered and I didn't care much for III when it came out but when watching all three back to back they just fit together perfectly and I now like all of them near-equally too.

It’s still seems to me that UHD’S are hit and miss at the mo. Very up and down.

That's what I was suggesting too. By far the most out of shape he was for any role he ever had was for the 2nd Jack Reacher.

He had a paunch.

There is something about TR1 that is not sitting right with me.
And the first MI is fully photochemical and totally mess up able

I can't wait for Fallout to hit UHD so I don't have to buy it twice, although knowing Paramount they'll toss a bonus Blu-ray in a Blu-ray-only version.

Since I don't own the first three on Blu-ray, I guess the best answer for this is to buy the first three on Blu-ray from Scandinavia, then buy the 4K releases from the US for the 4K discs and the second Blu-ray from the third film.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but a five-disc UHD-only box (not a jumbo SteelBook) would be nice in this case.

Like I said, dumb ****ing luck. I prayed that Par wouldn't mess up MI and make MI2 look like the light shining out of God's arse, it seems like both have been treated extremely well.

As someone who has watched DePalma’s original probably 20 plus times over the years, I was so friggin happy with the job Paramount have done with this disc. It looks and sounds spectacular and I felt like I was 16, back in the theatre opening night all over again.

This is what 4K UHD can do when they treat our favourite back catalogue titles properly.

Loved this shot. Shows quite a bit more fine details. The detail in the pattern on the wall on the left is practically lost in the blu-ray.
