Certain movies I’ll give away, some I keep. I’ll definitely keep the BD since it’s part of SF set. God I can’t wait until the 25th.

I love getting a better looking version of the movie.
For The Fog this will make upgrade number 4.
or Halloween I have 3 Laserdisc's, 1 or 2 DVD's and 2 Blu rays.

Since the 35th Anniversary edition WAS the closest to the original color timing, you're out of luck.

I'm definitely more excited to get a better quality version of any film I enjoy, there's no question about it, but is there really no part of you that says, "I wish I didn't feel like I had to buy this movie for, like, the sixth time"?

I'm a film fan and I'm a bit of a quality snob, so I'm always going to be on the front lines of physical media and scooping up the latest and greatest thing...

(well, maybe... I'm really not sold on 8K, like at all)

... but I told myself with 1080p I'd never need anything else, and then 4K came along and although I was reluctant for a while, I had to just stop, say, "Welp, they've got me by the cajones now," and start rebuying everything again. I still find myself in the mindset of, "I hope this is the last time I'll really have to buy this for my home theater," because going through the release cycle and acquiring almost everything you could possibly want and then seeing a new format come along that actually makes everything look better just hurts... mainly financially, of course, but also from the mental and emotional standpoint of, "I feel like this process is never going to end."

I'd like to get to a point one day where the diminishing returns in home entertainment improvement are so tiny, that I'll look at my library and say, "Nope, I'm good." I'm hoping 4K is really the last stop.

Now, Halloween is pretty much my favorite film of all time, so it's an instant buy no matter what. If it's botched somehow and some other distributor does a better job with a 4K disc again in the future, I'll buy that too. But I anxiously await the day for this film to get a release that's truly definitive so I won't feel the need to buy it anymore.

What I did was actually sit and make a list of which films I would be willing to replace on 4K. A handful of favorites, and some titles I like but the Blu-Ray is poor to mediocre. For example, sorry Cowboys & Aliens, but I ain't upgrading you I had ended up replacing about 90% of my DVD collection with Blu-Ray, and I'm just not willing to do that again on 4K.

I get tired of being asked to pay premium price for them.

'Hey, you know that film you bought twice already, well here's a brand spanking new edition, and it'll only cost you twice as much as last year's $300m blockbuster'.

I agree completely but then they announce a title like Christine and hear nothing but rave reviews and I think well damn that's another title I didn't know I needed to rebuy again.

I’ve also upgraded a small amount of BDs, but fortunately a good chunk have been dvd upgrades. While I fully appreciate 4k and HDR, what’s so wrong with the current Christine BD? I remember being blown away but it and the PQ and AQ were great. Has my memory failed me?

Nah, the blu is still great but I've A/B'd both and the HDR treatment really gives the film lovely deeper contrast and richer colour.

FWIW, Halloween (2018) just tore the house down at TIFF.

I know not all critic reviews equate to people automatically enjoying a film. Especially in 2018, lol.

However, it's still super cool, and super encouraging, to see quotes from people saying this is the ultimate companion piece, as well as the best Halloween film, since Carpenter's original.

I pre-ordered from BestBuy back when it was first announced. They haven't cancelled my pre-order, but it looks like they took the listing for the UHD down. What could this mean? Did they just run out of their allotment, or are they just not going to be carrying it?

I very much enjoyed it. There are some great throwbacks to the original (as well as other films in the series) and Laurie and Michael are both badasses. A worthy sequel to the original.

An enthusiastic crowd helps for sure, but I think the general population will dig it as well. It's gonna make a ton of money.

Still up for pre-order at Bull Moose for $17.97 if you missed out elsewhere. Wasn't charged tax or shipping for my order either.

I don't know about the current Christine BD, but the last "Special Edition" DVD I double dipped on (I had Columbia/TriStar's original horrid flipper disc before getting that new edition) didn't really bring much to the table in terms of improvement....the audio was still in a rather anemic Dolby 2.0 Surround and the anamorphic video was riddled with artifacts (still) and exhibited some other issues.

This is one I may pick up at some point because of my disappointment with the DVD.
