I realised that what was living behind that boy’s eyes was purely and simply a guy with a car and no sense of humour (British spelling in honor of Donald Pleasence).

Although I've never seen this masterpiece in film, I have owned it on every medium possible and have introduced it to so many friends, lovers and my own children when they came of age.

I've always had a more than decent sound system from VHS to the oft mentioned CRITERION LD (which my ex wife destroyed after my departure) to the THX dvd and the anniversary and boxed set blurays.

I know it's sacrilege, but I've always listened to the most recent track a particular medium had to offer and I can honestly say that whether or not it was the holy grail mono of the LD or the altered surround tracks, the hair on the back of my neck has always stood straight up once that classic music kicks in over the opening credits, and I am sucked in for the movies run time.

I'm sure the new ATMOS track will be no different..

I’ve always loved the part where Tommy looks out the window and sees The Shape carrying Annie’s body while we hear those sound effects from Forbidden Planet on the TV. It’s creepy and almost seems like it was audio that was designed specifically for that shot. It just goes so well with the visuals.

Yep. I'll go to bat for OG audio all day long and complain about how remixes affect my enjoyment, but here's a fun fact: the average movie watcher doesn't give a shit. Never has, never will.

Agreed, the average movie watcher is not buying into physical formats anymore. They are watching movies on streaming services, and I doubt any of those providers will port over the work that Shout Factory just did for this upcoming 4K release. Either way, the audio issues have been raised with helpful comparison videos to state the case. All we can do now is hope they are addressed the next time this movie gets re-done, and that is looking more and more doubtful as the years move forward. This release could possibly be the last physical release we see (yes, you can start laughing now). Now we await the reviews and move back to the visual realm where the inevitable complaints of DNR, color grading and Dean Cundey's involvement continue to plague this release.

true although in this case the average person will also buy the cheapest version of Halloween 4k available with cover art that they recognize, which will be the Lionsgate

Shout surely cater to (slightly) above average movie watchers like us lot and with price tags to match

The Average person went (at least pre-covid19Delta) to see a movie in a Theater with Original Audio. So no one complained about that! Because they were always ahead of home theater equipment. Well except that one guy.

That same Average person would rent it on a physical format or purchase it after that point now they stream it through a TV or possibly a soundbar 10%?? and then 1-2% of people have 5.1 and up I'd imagine.

I'm interested now on the number of people who use any sound gear besides a built in tv speaker...5-10%?? More or less...hmmm Tis sad. 10% would actually be huge numbers.
