So can we start taking bets on when H6 and H20 4Ks will be released? Around this time next year maybe? Hopefully not more than that.

What happened to the U.K. Lionsgate version? Out of print I assume?

We must have a new version coming out to coincide with the US SF version, surely?

I'm wondering how many people are voting in the poll that do not even own both discs..

I somehow skipped the Lionsgate offering and thus have not seen it in motion on my rig. I'm very pleased with the SHOUT disc but will not vote in the poll based on screen captures I've seen on the internet.

I know 2 members who stated they didn't or haven't purchased the Shout disc bases on screen caps voted for the LG disc.

I pretty much stopped buying 4Ks or even catalogue titles from the big studios for cult/horror stuff, it seems more often than not it's a given a boutique or someone like Shout Factory will put out a better set at some point not too far off buying the vanilla disc. Example, that Universal The Thing 4K, you know Shout or Arrow has the 4K collector's edition coming up soon. There's too much money in it right now for these super sets.

Yeah, if you don't own both discs then naturally you're going to have a predisposition towards the one you do own when you look at screen caps or worse, pick it just because, well, " I'm smart"...

I understand that the win for the Lionsgate has to do with compression and can see what people are talking about when looking at screencaps...but when someone talks about not being able to unsee it after spotting it on their zoomed in freeze framed image, then I'm glad that, on my setup, in full motion, the SHOUT disc simply looked filmlike...

As I've mentioned many times before on this forum, that's a term that has always made me chuckle. I remember a time when reviewers would describe Laserdisc and later, DVD transfers as "filmlike" in comparison to that gold standard. It was never the case.

After jumping to 4K, I've often felt that way about 1080p bluray upscaled and of course UHD material. I guess I'm lucky that I don't seem to see this horrendous compression in full motion.

I’ve purchased both. I have the LG in my possession. I’d love to be able to compare.

My current projector is a mid tier model that has brighter revisions. However, they achieve this extra brightness at the expense of colour accuracy. In a completely blacked out and light controlled room, I can squeeze the most out of it's modest HDR capabilities. Whenever I comment about a transfer on these forums, I always preface my post with what I'm working with.

There will always be a tradeoff. Even as backlit displays close the gap with respect to size, I have always preferred the "look" of a front projected image. I've been wowed at trade shows by all the colourful display footage they use to show off OLED technology, and if most of my viewing was digitally shot zoomed in footage of bees pollenating colourful flowers, or rain drops cascading on stained glass then I would go that route.

I know that many of the Whizz bang "features" of the tech can be thankfully disabled to achieve a more "filmlike" and less digital look. I recently had free rein of a local electronics shop while having the head unit replaced in my car.
I didn't have any of my test discs or filters with me, but it was mid week and the guys in the store let me loose on a few TVs from Samsung, Sony and the other usual suspects. I'm not a technician by any stretch, but after a few simple adjustments, I think I impressed a few guys there with how much better an image one can achieve by straying from the eye searing contrast levels and motion enhanced garbage that sells todays displays. Of course there will always be that guy that likes his movies to look like a video game and thinks that black crush is inky black. I know that's not anyone here.

Even with the acknowledged shortcomings of front projectors, I have never seen a TV that I would prefer to have in my home theater. While I watch all types of movies, my preferred titles are older, shot on film and very rarely require colours that "pop". I'm apparently not all that sensitive to compression artifacts. I am sensitive to frame rate anomalies and it floored me that some of the TVs I played with seemingly had no way to turn off frame rate interpolation completely ( at least not in the user accessible menu).

That night, when I sat down to watch this latest Halloween disc, the experience, the WHOLE experience, was exactly the one I have sought to cultivate in my home theater. From the sound (yes blasphemous ATMOS) to the image that takes up my entire field of view, the experience is cinematic, film like and not digital.
Try the newer JVC's with DTM and you won't be skeptical anymore.

Priorities...fortunately I'm done with that. To make you even more jealous, I should be receiving one of the new JVC NZ8 (RS3100) laser projectors in about a month
