Seriously though. When did we start giving all the studios power? That's why they do this crap.

And what if the final season sucked? It's unlikely, but let's pretend that Euron Greyjoy kills Cersei in the final scene to take the iron throne and the White Walkers take out the rest of the population. And then you see HUGE dice enter the frame and it turns out that it's been George R. R. Martin playing a board game this whole time. That would be a stupid ending and mitigate how good all of the other seasons were and really make you angry. Would you really want to buy ANY of it in 4K at that point?

I've learned my lesson. Only buy entire complete series' on BD. Never seasons of an incomplete show. I don't care if it affects their sales numbers or not.

Nah, Digital On-Demand, DVR's, Netflix, HBO Go, etc are why they stopped releasing television series on blu-ray.

I still love physical media, but at least I can recognize that TV series are a bit less... marketable. Individual season releases seem especially impractical.

I'm basically ONLY interested in complete series at this point. I have little or no interest in anything by the season. If I have even the slightest doubt if they will do the complete run on a format, there is no chance I'd buy just "season 1". So if this is some sort of "test", it's just plain dumb. As I doubt I'll get to watch season 8 in 4K/HDR (unless Comcast stealth rolls that out in the next year), I'll probably just watch the whole thing again 1080p On-Demand. and then straight into season 8. Then if they have the complete set UHD in 2020 I might buy the physical release then to finally experience it in 4K (and that's assuming it's a worthy upgrade). I see no point in doing it piecemeal.

Based on the screen caps on page 19 it is worth upgrading for HDR alone. To my eye the color in nearly all of the scenes save perhaps the wall is greatly enhanced in UHD. I spotted some minor increases in sharpness in spots such as in the cave scene, but colors steal the show.

This can be the case when it's an older finished show or a smaller show that doesnt have a lot of revenue or a rabid massive fanbase. Studios will gauge interest in future season releases by releasing a single season and watching its sales. But this isnt the case with a show like GOT. HBO's GOT is one of the highest profile, best quality, most popular shows of television history. Its production scale and budget is cinematic. It takes in an absurd amount of revenue from various sources. HBO isnt going to neglect to release its current premium shows on the current premium format. And the show still has a new season coming out in 2019 which is undoubtedly going to get a UHD release considering the scope and production value of season 8. Seems unlikely that HBO would release season 1 and 8 on UHD and never release the other 6 seasons.

So regardless of sales of season 1's UHD, this show will be entirely released on UHD. Westworld probably will as well unless the physical disc market completely dies and UHD is surpassed before Westworld ends.

You mean like how they released Part I and Part II of Season 6 of The Sopranos followed by Season 1 on Blu-ray? Then never released Seasons 2 through 5. Then, years later a complete series box set? Yeah. HBO would never do such a thing.

Season 1 of GOT 4K RETAILS for $64.99 and is currently $44.96.

So, Hmmmm... The full series of GOT for less than $100 in 2021 or $45 x 8 Seasons individually. What is a guy to do?
