Should I go ahead and order the Studio Canal version? I ask this because I assume the Sony Transfer could be stronger?

The compression will certainly be better on the Sony!

The StudioCanal releases of the Carpenter movies have shown that they're having some compression and HDR 10 issues, so I'd definitely wait for the Sony. I still like those Carpenter releases overall, but they have issues the Sony won't.

Hmm, despite StudioCanal UK info on having Dolby Atmos, the German disc does not have Dolby Atmos at all... DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 only.

DE/FR/UK are the same shared discs I think, like seen on other recent StudioCanal releases.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...0#post15730800

So another reason to import the Sony US disc.

got my uk edition today and ive tried the disc. i can confirm:

UK VERSION HAS NO ATMOS, only DTS HD MA5.1 so either sony usa version is lying about atmos or this version is just missing it cause its studiocanal

I thought it was said already that the Atmos will be exclusive to the Sony version.

Movie brings back fond memories of youth. Has been a repeat viewing candidate a gazillion times in the household. I still feel the tension of the opening scene every time I see it. Wish the movie could be restored to a full director's cut as so many continuity affecting edits are obvious. Will spring for it day 1 though, hoping also that the BD is a remaster

I already stated this and got a bunch of pretentious comments about "only gorehounds care about that stuff" The Studiocanal BD is remastered, but I'm not sure about the Sony one. I'm guessing that will probably be the old disc though, given their current track record.

Not exactly. Weeks ago, Blu-ray.com posted early details on the upcoming UK release, which matched later on, with the info found on Amazon.co.uk provided by StudioCanal.

Then out of the blue, Sony will release this too and with Dolby Atmos. So the Dolby Atmos audio info StudioCanal would have made sense in some way. Seems different discs after all.

Hmmm. Remixed audio only on the Sony vs shite StudioCanal compression? As much as I carp on about OG audio, there's no contest there: Sony wins.

Sony's been getting pretty decent at including older 5.1 mixes on their UHDs now so there's a chance it could still show up on theirs.

I'm not sure how many are original in relation to the films but Christine still had it's original mono mix and I think Philadelphia will? I'm not sure the 5.0 is original or not myself.

Watched the first 15 minutes of the UHD and then the same 15 of the old BD. A big upgrade. Looks great by comparison. If anything, the uptick in detail and such make the various effects even more obvious. That’s too be expected though.
