Ordered from Amazon, say's arriving Fri along with other goodies. I was getting worried thinking lengthy delay on this. Glad to hear it's a nice release, love this film.

Watched 10 minutes of each disc back and forth. Many of you are too kind. The black crush is absurd!
Intro scene with Barney & Verger, that’s entire back shelf of books in shadow, along with the be intricate gate design of the 2nd floor, and the fireplace mantle as Verger gets his “cookie”.
In the van, “how can she sleep at a time like this?” Half his face is gone in shadow. As the truck pulls up for the warehouse, the officers in uniform? What uniform it’s all black.
I’m desperately trying to understand how there can be such a dramatic difference in lighting on each disc. Before any of you come at me with TV setting, review the discs and decide if you’re actually being honest with yourself about the black crush.
I am so god damned disappointed.

The BD is an improvement over previous releases though.

I don't think it's fair to dunk on someone just because they're not a fan of Westerns or Clint Eastwood, but this forum suffers from groupthink as much as any.

I'm not the biggest fan of "traditional" Westerns (I like mine with a twist or genre-mixed), and I don't care about Eastwood one way or the other, but Sergio Leone's spaghetti westerns are among the best in cinema history. His formalism alone is to die for.

That said, Once Upon a Time in the West > the Dollars trilogy

Well I'll come at you with your TV because you're the first to report this. I saw none of this at all.

I could see detail in those scenes. I think the issue is your settings or your TV (or a combination of both).

There's no black crush. And if there is, it's extremely (and I mean extremely) minimal. They didn't overdo it with the HDR on this one, it looks like it was very carefully graded.

Man those shots of Verger's house shrouded in mist are actually spectacular.

It's your TV. You've even made that a point in one of your recent posts:

If only a handful of titles in 4K stand out, it's most DEFINITELY your TV.

I read reviews on amazon that say that the 4k uhd is defective, and that it didn't work. Has anyone here had playback issues with the hannibal 4k?

Yeah, when I was watching this yesterday I had the "Display" option turned on to check out the bitrate and it was often hitting the 80-90 Mbps range. Impressive.

As Gary Tooze would say, "MAX'D OUT BITRATE".

He'd be correct this time.

Lol, haven't checked his site in ages. Do Momitsu even do a 4K UHD player?

(You'd be surprised at how many discs hit way higher than that though, Little Mermaid jumped into the 150+ Mb/s range at one point on my Panasonic player's readout!)

LOL he has an Oppo, apparently.

(And wow crazy about TLM, I didn't check out the info on that one while watching it. I'm curious to take a look now haha.)

I was worried when the cashier quickly scribbled her initials on the sticker, but luckily she did it lightly and I don't have her autograph on the slipcover. I usually ask them not to do that but she did it so quickly I didn't have a chance!

I thought I saw that. Good to know I'm not crazy. My only complaint with this disc assuming it is not inherent in the source and the contrasty look was the director's intention.

Stronger shadows/lower contrast =/= black crush.

While there may be black crush on this disc (I don't know- I haven't seen it), nothing that you're describing here is necessarily black crush at all.
