Just finooooshed with this and that's exactly right. It's a beautiful refinement of the already strong 1080p presentation. A pretty delicious looking layer of fine grain, more information in the highlights and a smidge more additional detail across the board resulting in nicer looking textures etc.
As for the movie - this is one of my favourites of the last few years. It's a supremely focused thriller, not an ounce of fat on it. Funny yet incredibly brutal (with judicious editing, it managed to obtain a PG-13 rating yet it feels very much like an R-Rated movie). Chris McQuarrie smashed the s*** out of this adaptation. If they do a third, he really needs to be a part of it. HDR10 / 65"X900E / UBP-X800 |

I really liked this upgrade. HDR was handled respectfully and didn’t alter the look but simply added to the filmic presentation. I’m glad it still has its warmth but it’s more nuanced and not just a blanket anymore. Those flesh tones looked better too.

Watched this today.
Thought it was very pleasant to look at, very natural and filmic. I noticed I had to turn up the volume more than usual. Movie itself was entertaining. I liked Cruise's cockiness for instance though some things seemed a bit far fetched to me. The bathtube assault and busstop hiding scenes took me out of the movie for a moment, weird and didn't really fit IMO. I'm not familiar with the source material though so perhaps those are just fine. ![]() |

I feel like this film had a self awareness the second film failed to have. The off humor really worked in this case and helped to move the plot swiftly. I don't think introducing his 'daughter' in the second film worked and watching Cruise and Duvall together was a highlight too.

I didn't really like the comic relief scenes. And that bathtube fight scene really was a WTF moment for me. ![]() Still I do like the movie though, planning on watching the sequel (which I equally liked) sometime this week. |

All good, I still think it's more entertaining than the second (which I found a slog to get through) especially the reveal of the whodunit scene, very old school vibe.
