I'll be honest, I go to the popcorn movies expecting something that's at least moderately entertaining and I don't really pay attention to all the special effects all that closely. Somehow I seem to enjoy them much more that way

This is such a poor argument. Entertaining and smart is what should always be expected. Some of the biggest blockbusters of all time were entertaining and didn’t result to such blatant nonsense, Jurassic Park, Titanic, Avatar, Star Wars, and the list is long. IQs have dropped sharply since the 90s.

Besides Luna, the Latin cast should be ashamed of themselves. I’ve seen better acting on Telemundo. So many wasted opportunities. Contrasting again with Alita, Rosa gave an Oscar worthy performance.

If Rosa gave an Oscar worthy performance then Elton loves ba--ing chicks after all. This movie took Alita outside and beat the ever lovin' sh-- out of it. Talk about your polished turds.

I wouldn't blow that horn too loudly. The CG on Alita was not mind blowing. Nor was it "fabulous". Servicable? Most definitely. And that's about it. I felt this movie had the better effects. It is real? Hmmmmm... NO! DUH! It's a movie about futuristic robots sent back to kill people. Realism went out the window the minute the movie started. Yet Alita, which is about as real as the Lucky Charms leprechaun has the better effects. Hate to break it to you, but neither are real.

You miss the point. Kind of like the graphic supervisors who approved this nonsense.

That's not an argument at all. It's just a fact.

Nothing to be ashamed of, papito, they should all be very proud. They did a great job.

I really enjoyed this movie. No shame in admitting it. I like the choices they made. This was supposed to be the first in a trilogy, so we are just seeing the first part of a story they wanted to tell. Unfortunately since so many people chose not to see it, we are probably not going to get to see where it was going to lead.

For people comparing this two Alita. They are different beasts. I personally loved both. For different reasons. The only thing I think they have in common is they were both criminally underseen.

Isn't that how it works? Opening week is everything and this one only made $29.3mil. It's not like it's going to do exponentially better than that in the following weeks.

I even had two different friends next me out of nowhere to laugh at the appeal of this movie during TV spots.

[Show spoiler]The T2 footage from Pescadero, while a nice touch, was clearly cut to not include Silverman, though I think its one of the unused takes from T2. The "anyone not wearing two million sunblock..." line delivery is a bit different.
It didn't sound like different takes to me, they just edited it to condense the speech a bit and to remove her reference to Silberman by name, although he still clearly speaks to her (again, with the original take as used in T2) so he's not gone completely.

I'm getting a sense of deja vu here.

How these studios have made the same mistake 4 times now with the same franchise I'll never understand. At least this time they can blame Cameron faith.

Yes exactly, it's crazy how much money they threw at this one as a new sequel after Genisys grossed less than they wanted.

I really enjoyed the movie but I'm surprised they went all in again.

Just like they learned from the last 3 box office failures

Seriously though, THIS TIME i doubt they will be throwing money at another big budget entry in this franchise.

Yes, but don't make the movies too smart. I still have no clue what Inception was all about

I enjoyed it too. It was great to see Linda Hamilton back in the role of Sarah. The opening scene was shocking and well done. The acting was great from most of the actors. I think they should've made the brother, the lead character, not the sister.

The evil robot was awesome. Loved how he could split into two entities.

A shame it's not doing well.
