Wonder Woman was decent, but it was pretty over-hyped. It was not as amazing as everyone made it out to be. Gal Gadot did embody the role of Diana Prince, however, the rest of the film just felt off.

Batman V Superman the extended cut and Man of Steel are my favorite DCU movies so far. I found Suicide Squad to be decent, only just slightly behind WW. I just picked up Justice League and haven't had a chance to watch it yet, but I will this weekend. I am prepared with lower general expectations already, so hopefully it'll be enjoyable enough.

The funny thing with the DCU is that the opinions on each movie often are EXTREME polar opposites. I'd venture to say that before the DCU/MCU marketing machines, DC comic book characters were more widely revered (Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman). Maybe that's why people are so much more inclined to feel a certain way regarding these movies.

I think Aquaman and Shazam have the potential to be good. James Wan is an awesome director, can't wait to see what he does with Aquaman. And Shazam looks like it could be a fun movie.

Just hope it doesn't have Studio Interference like BVS, Suicide Squad, JL.

MoS is the best movie but Wonder Woman is the most rewatchable. I'm falling out of love with BvS the more I watch it. Justice League is dumb fun. Suicide Squad is just dumb.

I agree. Batman & Superman, to me, are the be-all end-all kings of superheroes. Yet, while I think Batman has a better film track record than Superman, the Marvel/Disney films are overall better films with much less known heroes.

While the first two Superman films and the Burton Batman films are good, I honestly never liked any Marvel-character films until "The Avengers", "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and as far as X-Men goes, I didn't start enjoying X-Men in film until "Days of Future Past" and only quasi-enjoyment of "Apocalypse", so my X-Men films enjoyment was very short-lived, but I did also like "Logan." If you cannot tell I am very clearly not that big a fan of Bryan Singer, and all those allegations against him have nothing to do with it.

I thought I would like "Iron Man 2" just based on all the great acting talent: Robert Downey Jr., Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson and where they really hooked me, Sam Rockwell and Mickey Rourke. I wasn't a fan of the first "Iron Man" and was expecting to love "Iron Man 2" based on the cast, but somehow it wasn't as good as it should've been. Then once again, before ever seeing the film, I was expecting to love "Iron Man 3" just because of the Shane Black-aspect, but again somehow I did not find it to be that great.

Marvel finds really great directors to pair with the material, case in point with Scott Derrickson and James Gunn. "Doctor Strange" and "Guardians of the Galaxy" are by far my favorite Marvel outings. Like I said, I am curious to see how James Wan's "Aquaman" turns out, but really the only beacon of hope to me for the DCU right now, is hopefully Matt Reeves does something amazing to revive Batman. Well, that and hopefully if the rumored Joker stand-alone film comes to fruition, produced by Martin Scorsese and directed by Todd Phillips.

I'm curious to see what Matthew Vaughn does with MOS 2 and this R rated Birds of Prey movie.

Honestly never heard Matthew Vaughn was associated with a "Man of Steel" sequel.. He's hit or miss for me, I loved "Layer Cake" and think "X-Men: First Class" is the best X-Men movie up until "Days of Future Past", but I am not a fan of his other directorial works.

I think a "Man of Steel" sequel is too little too late now. If we were to get one it should have came before "Batman v. Superman" and maybe should have fleshed out all the characters who were to appear in "Batman v. Superman" instead of cramming them all for that film. I'm sure people would have liked to have seen some of Jimmy Olsen before he's first seen and killed all within the first minutes of the extended cut of that film and we could have established Wonder Woman a bit more before hand and same with Bruce Wayne instead of once again re-telling the origin of him and what happened to his parents all within that same film.

But, I guess if we did have a "Man of Steel 2" back then, it would have possibly changed the whole reason for Batman and Superman clashing, for better or worse.

Even Joss Whedon liked a tweet about Steppenwolf being the worst comic movie villain. Chances are he wasn't too happy about some of the cuts WB required.

Steppenwolf is a pretty powerful villain, just poorly done in JL.

My biggest problem with Justice League was the lack of MoS and WW themes. Two of the best scores of all the comic book movies, and they just didn't bother re-using them.

And it needed to be about an hour longer and have more Green Lanterns.

If Disney ever does buy WB (incredibly unlikely but you never know), owning Harry Potter and Middle-Earth will be their main motivation for doing so.

Owning Fox's catalogue of films and TV shows and getting the distribution rights to the first six Star Wars films for their upcoming streaming service was their main motivation for buying Fox. Getting X-Men, Deadpool and Fantastic Four back to Marvel is an added bonus. Getting Harry Potter and The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings alongside WB's many other films to put them on their streaming service would be their motivation to ever buy WB. I imagine there's clauses in contracts and agreements that stops Marvel and DC being owned by the same corporation so if WB ever did sell to Disney, DC will likely be sold off to another studio.

This will all never happen of course. The only way it could happen is if the AT&T/Time Warner merger is blocked by the courts and Time Warner is still anxious to merge/sell their assets. But even then, I imagine Disney would only go for Harry Potter, Tolkien and possibly Hanna-Barbera .

This is why Disney is buying everything up. Not just to strike big at the box office but to have the largest library of content for their upcoming streaming service that they can blow all the competition out of the water. Can you imagine anyone being able to compete with a streaming service that offers Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, all of Disney's other films/shows, X-Men, Die Hard, Alien, Predator, The Simpsons and all of Fox's other films/shows? And then, hypothetically, getting Harry Potter and Tolkien too? Disney will win the streaming service war simply due to having the most content.

He's been constantly rumoured to be attached but, as far as I'm aware, there's nothing solid or concrete. There's been talk that DC will announce their new film slate at Comic-Con so we'll have to wait and see.

This is the extent of Matthew Vaughn being involved in a "Man of Steel" sequel -- https://www.cinemablend.com/news/174...rk-millar-says

Quote:
Back in March [2017], it was reported that "Kingsman: The Golden Circle" director Matthew Vaughn was being eyed to helm the sequel, and it was later confirmed that he's talked with Warner Bros about the project. As things stand now, according to comic book writer and Vaughn's collaborator, Mark Millar, Vaughn currently isn't lined up to direct "Man of Steel 2" yet, but that doesn't mean that the opportunity is entirely off the table either.
If Matthew Vaughn did do a "Superman" film, this is what he says he would do:

Quote:
I think my main take would be, it’s really boring but make a Superman film. I just don’t feel a proper Superman—I think Donner did it to perfection for that time. Just doing the modern—I wanna do a modern version of the Donner [version]. Go back to the source material… For me Superman is color, feel-good, heroic. He’s a beacon of light in darkness. And that’s what I think Superman should be.

If that's what Vaughn wants to do, then no wonder WB wants him. Since they seem to have realised that Superman films should actually be hopeful and leave the audience with a smile on their face. While the postmodernist take on Superman may be appealing, it just didn't work for most people. A more traditional take on Superman is needed to bring people back on board.

Honestly, I don't really know what would be the way to go at a "Superman" film, I would actually like to see Snyder go at it again with a solo basic follow-up to "Man of Steel" just for continuity sake and I actually don't mind "Man of Steel" anyway. Or maybe what Matthew Vaughn wants to do is the right approach? I really don't know I'm not the target-audience for whatever a "Superman" film should be. Vaughn's take, stylistically kind of sounds like what Bryan Singer was going for and I was not a fan of that.

In my opinion, I think if Warner Bros. is still going forward with a "Superman" film after the disaster that was "Justice League", what I would like to see them do is adapt some of the more popular storylines from the comics. Maybe do a "Red Son" adaption, "Reign of the Supermen" or "The Return of Superman", had "Batman v. Superman" not already happened I'd say "Death of Superman", but they already mangled that.

Red Son? Ouch. Even though it’s a great story, making a film of it might not be the smartest decision in the current political climate.
