I don't understand this and why people care so much about digital copies.

If you are the type of person that cares about 4K and physical media, why would you want a digital copy?

If I'm going to take the time to watch a movie, it's going to with the best possible quality and with the 4K disc.

Agreed. Digital copy is a fluff marketing gimmick. I'm always surprised when people actually care about it.

And to not buy a release solely because it doesn't have one? lol

I redeem my digital copies just to do it but if I own the movie on disc, why would I want to watch it the digital copy with worse quality? Just doesn't make sense.

If you want digital, go digital. Why even buy the disc?

I guess if you have kids then they could watch the digital version but that's the only benefit I could see.

I’ve never redeemed a digital code included with a movie in my life. I still have no idea what “Ultra-Violet” is, a digital service? Lol.

I've never redeemed a digital copy either. I couldn't care less whether its included or not with my discs.

Selling digital codes paid for my Oppo so I’m grateful for their inclusion. I only wish I had started selling mine sooner.

Same. I use to redeem my digital codes even though I never watched them and then I started selling them.

My Target had 4 copies available today and every single copy had a spine slash on one side. I've never seen that before lol.

I wonder if there's a flaw in that Color IQ test. I got a perfect score on it, but looking at the results, the fourth and fifth ones from the right on the bottom row don't look right to me. I switched some of them around to compare, and they were clearly wrong, but the correct way to place them still seems strange to me, it's just that it looks the least strange. I didn't feel this way about any of the other rows and my girlfriend took the test, got a perfect score as well, and agreed with me about those two particular squares on the bottom. My MacBook Pro isn't calibrated though, so maybe that's the reason. But then why would everything else look perfect to me?

I just watched this today, and have to say that there are no wow moments at all on this disc. It really doesn’t look 4k at all, IMHO. From what I have read, it is better than the previous versions of the film, but I found it to be quite disappointing.
I own around 35 4k discs, and this is probably the worst one I have seen.

Josie,

Thanks for your feedback on the 4K version of this timeless classic, though unfortunate regarding your experience. That's disheartening to hear that it wasn't that great-looking. I have yet to purchase a UHD disc player (I will soon) but this was a title I was interested in as an avid fan (though I always save it for watching one time per year -- on October 31).

It reminds me, in spirit at least, of Anchor Bay's first Blu-ray release of the title in '07 (which I bought) -- a kind of stripped-down affair by Lionsgate that is, on the surface, teasing an eventual re-release with, yet again, another transfer "tinkering." I'll probably hold off buying this when I get a UHD disc player, at least until it gets reissued with a superior transfer (if it does) along with the sequels up to part four (if they do).

In the meantime, I'll stick to choosing between the original Blu or the THX DVD when it comes time to view this at the end of the month.

I disagree. The use of HDR is subtle, but very noticeable in spots (mainly the lights, jack-o-lanterns, etc). The 4K really shines imo during the second half on the film with the blue lighting. Overall, the clarity is much more significant now. Just my observations.

I used to sell them but after having trouble playing a few discs I decided to start redeeming them as backup copies basically. However after the news broke of Apple removing people's movies I haven't redeemed them anymore, kind of out of protest. Not sure what to do with them at this point.

Just my two cents, but I'm a physical media guy as well, but I've been holding onto my codes and redeeming them. Like you, I consider them a backup, so if they (the digital copies) end up going away for whatever reason, I won't feel like I actually lost anything. Redeeming the codes aren't really going to hurt anything or send a message of complacency. I wouldn't be concerned without unless you're spending real world money on digital copies of movies through places like Vudu, Amazon, etc.

By the way, as an aside, I believe the issue that got widely reported was the result of someone that had purchased something from another region, but wouldn't follow them to the new region... or something like that. That's a different can of worms I suppose, but not the 'hey, Apple just straight up removed that dude's movie from his collection' story that was initially reported. The bigger story was that Apple had, like, the worst customer service ever. "Wow, what a bummer that you lost something you spend good money on... here's a free rental!"
