If you're referring to my statement regarding comb filtering and mono playback, I'm not going to go down that proverbial rabbit hole with you again in which I defend the merits of one-channel playback for these types of signals as compared to two-channel playback; that one there's surely not enough bandwidth here for.

Comb filtering and its unpleasant negatives are real enough.

Cool; didn't look too dim or grainy on your display?

Nothing ever looks too grainy to me. My room is light controlled and never watch UHD in the light so rarely find PQ dim.

I always watch Blu-ray and DVD in a dim/dark room, as well, never in the daylight or with room lighting on, so most things appear pretty bright to me, as well....even in my Samsung's Movie mode (which I never was a fan of on any manufacturer's displays prior to getting this display).

Where do you keep your set's backlighting -- do you leave it to the HDR default settings?

Can't tell ya how many Islanders games I saw there, too...

Bringing back memories. And, yes, that Blue Oyster Cult track is a killer (a little pun intended); I have their On Flame with Rock and Roll CD which contains that track along with "Burnin' For You."
BOC are Long Island-natives, and given the proximity of Oyster Bay to Hempstead, NY, the show was definitely a local boys make good, laser light show and all!

I was last back to what is now known as NYCB Live this past summer for the first time in donkey's years to see U2:

Very cool; indeed, as a native Long Islander myself, I'm well aware that BOC are local favorites.

I'm all for the original audio, but in this instance I really don't believe the 7.1 diminishes the experience. Yes, there are minor changes and additions that are present but not obtrusive; to my ears the film retains the essence of the original.

That said, everyone is entitled to spend their own money as they see fit.

If I was asked, I would say the UHD is well worth the price ($15) for anyone who is a fan, and by all means, keep your old discs if it makes you get the urge for the mono.

Anyone else noticing the horrendous and clearly obvious banding issue? It starts about 3:15 as Michael is prowling outside the Myers house and continues & worsens as he enters the back of the house.

Never seen anything like this on a UHD before, the black area at the bottom of the screen is darkening in steps upwards as the shot pans.

Happens in a few shots of the Smith's Grove section too.

I've had a brief look through the rest of the film and haven't seen it anywhere else.

Anyone else with the UK disc confirm this issue? Surely if it was on the US release somebody would've mentioned it.

Thanks
I noticed this as well, using a samsung ks7000 (ks8000 in the US) and the banding on those segments is quite bad.

The rest of the film is not affected (aside from one or two sections for a brief few seconds)

Very strange.

I don't have the UK version, but US, I have the LG OLED B7, horrible banding as well as what appears to be light bleed from the far right edge of the image during first scene. Blacks are grey.

I don’t mess with any picture settings for HDR or SDR.

I own over 40 4K discs and most of them are spectacular and grain free, including many back catalog titles. But honestly, for me, the deal breaker for Halloween in 4K was how pale it looked. dead. no colors. Can't watch it.
Do you understand that grain is organically part of the image for anything captured on film? Grain holds the majority of fine detail and wiping it away takes that detail with it, thus rendering the entire point of the higher 4K resolution moot.

Not sure what 4K disc you have in your collection but thankfully all of mine (that are film-sourced) have a lovely field of fine grain just as they should.

Bless Sony for putting out some of the finest UHD disc on the market! All three Spider-Man films look absolutely gorgeous.

*edit* Also, try turning the sharpness down to 0 on your TV if it's that distracting. You should see an immediate improvement.

I've come to terms with the fact that some folks just want/expect UHDs to all look like a cutscene from their favorite videogame. Those folks cannot be helped.

For me, the original Spider-man is absolutely unwatchable on 4K. The grain appears to be 'dancing' on the film, it's moving around and that's distracting. Your point makes no sense to me as other, newer Spider-man movies, if we are on the subject, like the very last one, do not have that problem. the regular bd that came with the 4k of the original Spider-man is as close to perfection in my view, than all of it's other releases (which I've owned every single one.)
Halloween 4K's grain is not that bad, the reason I call this title a downgrade, is mainly because of the coloring issue. it looks as pale as the corpses in the movie.

Spider-Man: Homecoming was shot digitally, not on film. Hence no grain. I’m kind of shocked this needs to be explained, to be honest.
