Halloween 4K UHD (1978)

I received my US copy 2 days ago but I'm holding out in watching until Friday. That's when my October Halloween horror month will begin, and what a great way to kick it off with the UHD of Halloween!

The audio mix is incorrect, wrong, not right, faulty, broken, pointless, stupid, bad, rubbish.

The audio mix is OFFICIALLY incorrect? Because I don't see any recalls. And why are only a handful of people complaining? Are the rest of us too inferior to notice?

What do you mean yours was produced properly? Everyone's getting the same disc if there's a fault with the mono track (which there is) it would be consistent with every copy.

And yes the audio mix is officially incorrect. If you're familiar with the original mono track it's definitely noticeable.

This is what gets me about people complaining about mixes (and not just in this forum). I don't (and never did) come out of a theater and think...'I need to remember how this sounded so when I buy it on VHS(or whatever) in a few years (or 40 years), it will sound exactly the same.' I saw Star Wars when it was released and it changed my life. I can't remember how it sounded exactly. I know I enjoyed the movie immensely. I know I bought the soundtrack (several times). I know I've bought just about every release of the movie created. But I don't crave to see and hear it as it was. I would rather see it in it's full HD glory and surround sound with lasers zooming around my head. That's what takes me back to how I enjoyed it. I don't want to listen to it coming from one speaker in the middle of the room.

*Disclaimer- yes I know I mentioned one speaker. This was just an example (it could have been two, lol). I can't tell you how many (and I'm not going to look it up) speakers and/or what mixes were used during Star Wars initial release. I had to right this disclaimer but I know that no matter what; I'm about to get flamed.

i just realized this doesnt come with a digital copy. how come the original isnt on digital?

I've watched the movie and I had always wondered what the hell Laurie was saying. It wasn't until the Blu-ray where I close captioned to see "Was it the boogeyman?"

It always sounded like "What's the boogeyman" or something bizarre.

Am I the only one?

See this where those who want the original mix see how others are missing the point. The film already has a 7.1 surround track so hence folks like you don’t have to listen to it through one speaker or two. Listen to it with the surround mix. It’s there for your convenience. However those who wish to view the film with its original mix don’t have it so lucky. Things outside of just creating additional channels was changed when converting the original mono to surround and unfortunately the mono track on this release reflects those changes and hence is useless.

As far as ‘remembering how the film sounded in the original release’, people using that argument are missing the point completely. Case and point. When I started seriously watching Jaws I borrowed my stepbrothers widescreen VHS before switching to the old MCA VHS release I had my dad get me off eBay. Both these releases had the original mono. However I wasn’t making conscious notes to myself of every single detail in the audio. That being said once I got the Anniversary release that remixed the film in surround the changes stood out to me like a sore thumb. I didn’t ask or choose for those changes to be noticeable, they just were.

So again having the original mix is about preserving the films original presentation. However, if that’s not your thing that’s what the surround mix is for. But to counterpoint people’s desires to have the original mix restored by arguing you can’t remember the films mix during release is missing the point. Having the original mix should be a given, not an option. If you don’t like it, stick with the surround mix.

I'm a huge proponent of original audio, and I'm even a weirdo who uses headphones and has zero use for surround tracks. All that said though, when I watched Halloween on UHD nothing really bothered me about the 7.1 track. Granted I'm not as big a super fan of this movie as many on here, so stuff like added lightning doesn't really stick out to me, but I'm just saying nothing really felt "off." I'm FAR from an audiophile though, so I'm only saying this for others like me to maybe ease their concerns a bit.

Anyway, back to the actually transfer of this release. I watched it projected last night and it looked like watching an actual new film print (this is THE hope/goal of the format for me at the end of the day with catalog titles). Excellent presentation. Good compression and grain intact as the disc looked very analog. Brightness, highlights, color, etc. nicely done.

Nope. I have always heard that line as "What's the boogeyman?" and it's always seemed very weird.
