For me it's more about what something was and how it relates to what it is now, rather than a new mix being the devil right off the bat. If they'd kept the core of what the FC 5.1 did for the audio - being one of the best remixes I've ever heard, though let's bear in mind they were hardly upmixing it from mono to start with - then we wouldn't be having this conversation, but it doesn't do that. It dramatically "re-envisions" the entire sound field in service of the Atmos effect, something that the FC 5.1 mix did not do because its mandate wasn't to fill an extra set of speakers or three. The changes to that mix felt true, felt organic, felt like they'd always been there, while the changes to the Atmos mix feel like they're there for the sake of it, even undoing some of the things that the FC 5.1 brought to the table which I found to be rather bizarre.

How would we ever manage without the Bits, eh? What? Oh.

You're a contributor to this site and you're asking that question seems pretty ignorant. And have you actually compared them? Because I have and immediately in the first opening scene you can tell a difference, especially in the rear. I don't want to get anymore off topic then it already has but as a contributor try not to show off your bias so much

And so much reliance on masks as a way to resolve a plot point...and even without them and without the slow motion it still wouldn't be a great movie...good, but certainly not great

Yeah, but it's posting that on here where the info likely came from in the first place that cracks me up. Nothing personal against Bill whatsoever because all those sites I used to visit back in the day (HTF, HDD, Bits etc) have become largely irrelevant.

It would be a crime to remix M:I 1. The original mix done by Gary Rydstrom is still reference grade, and one of my all time favorites. I got the chance to hear it again at an art house and their system couldn’t handle it at all. I still spin the Laserdisc ac3 as it’s the only release to date with all the bass intact. A proper lossless rendering of the theatrical 5.1 would be a godsend.
