This is such a frustrating situation since I skipped theaters in favor of blind-buying the 4K disc. I think I'm gonna watch the TC on disc first, and if I like the movie enough, then I'll check out the DC in digital 4K. Imperfect, but it is what it is, I guess.

Eh. I'm gonna watch the 4K first, then the 2K DC at some point afterwards. As much as I love me some HDR I've been watching a fair bit of SDR stuff lately and it didn't have me recoiling in horror, oddly enough.

I might do the same, I’m not sure. I’m finding it to be a toss up between 1080p discs and 4K streams lately when it comes to what I prefer. It’s on a case by case basis.

Still wish the DC was on 4K Disc, but I guess if I want to watch it in 4K it'll be through streaming I guess.

The movie doing bad in theaters has nothing to do with the lack of a DC on the 4K version. Stop trying to use the box office as a scape goat. Call it for what it is otherwise this shit will continue.

Hell, why should I even pay for the more expensive over priced 4K version if it is going to only include an inferior version?

"Oh wait, they are gonna release it."

No idea where the first half of your argument is coming from, but there's no point in putting it out on 4K in the first place if it is going to be just the inferior edition. You can save yourself $5-15 just by buying the BD version instead.

I'm with the director on this one -- at least we'll get to see his cut. The alternative could've been worse.

Dude, the movie TANKED. HARD. We're lucky Warner spent the money at all to produce a director's cut. In order to put the director's cut on 4K they would need to put it on another disc. That's not cheap. With the movie having lost money Warner isn't going to spend any more money on this than they need to. Plus, The 4K is not overpriced. Since when was $25-30 overpriced? Did i miss a memo? Also, you can't say what's on 4K is inferior. The theatrical release is what was shown in theaters And If Warner never put out a director's cut we would think the theatrical cut is the superior one. We are not owed anything, so please stop with the entitlement crap.

AGAIN dude, how do you what is on the 4K is inferior? You have a crystal ball or sumthin'? I suspect you don't and are just talking out your a--. And you will not be saying $15 by buying the Blu-ray. The Blu-ray will likely Cost $20-25 while the 4K will cost close to $30. Please stop with the entitlement tantrum.

I remember folks speculating that this might nor=t get a release due to its poor box office but I don't remember people getting all worked up about Warner. I know I felt confident that it would still get a release because it's WB and the tie-in with The Shining. I also think it's a movie that will have some decent legs on home video.

Also, good to know the DC is coming for those who want it. I think I mentioned this before but I wouldn't expect anything that drastically changes the narrative. I'll be surprised if the DC actually improves upon the TC but I'm looking forward to giving it a chance.

I love them both. The theatrical cut was absolutely the best for our release, and that was also "my" cut. I do have a special place in my heart for this longer cut as a Constant Reader, though. It's closest to how I felt reading the book. I expect King fans might feel the same.
Flanagan likes both versions and they were both under his control 100%. So superior cut is honestly personal opinion at this point.

Directors always say that to stay in studios’ good graces. If they loved the theatrical cut as is, there would never be a need for their director’s cuts. They’re, in effect, saying the theatrical version is the best it could be to account for the need to allow maximum showings per day, but the director’s cut is superior for home video, where time limitation concerns don’t apply. If only one cut is affordable for the studio to put on a 4K disc, it should be the DC every time.

Sounds like another Water World situation - I'm dragging on getting the 4k cause I thk I'll hate what's missing from the extended cut and the Arrow 2K ends being my forever version. Ditto The Punisher, I can't watch the 4k now that I've seen the extended version that Germany released on Blu Ray 2k.

I’m still convinced that people who say they prefer the theatrical edit of WATERWORLD to its extended one also punch babies and kick puppies.

Generally speaking, if there can be only one then I would prefer the original cut on UHD. There would be a few exceptions where I'd be unhappy to be stuck with the theatrical, but I think I can list those movies on one hand. For me the TC is the priority and anything else is just icing.

I had a puppy, but she passed away nine days ago. Got a teen and a tween that could use a series of strong backhands, though, so you’re welcome to ‘em.
