As the tone of his post implies, I think we've gotta take what we can get. I didn't think for a second that Warners would cancel the 4K release after the movie bombed like it did, but spending mo' money to do the extended cut probably stung them a little bit and they're not going to waste more cash on producing a 4K DC disc. Could still just be a weird policy thing at Warners, I mean Grindelwald took a fair bit more cash than Sleep did and that didn't even get the extended cut on disc at all in North America.

As interested as I am in the Director's Cut, I'm not *entirely* upset that it's only showing up on BD with the 4K release. I've seen the film twice now and, while it's excellent (IMO), it does run...a tad long. It's a good long, don't get me wrong, but...30 more minutes? I can potentially see the theatrical version remaining my go-to version of the film anyway. And I'm thrilled that we'll get to see another version at all. Wasn't even on my radar until this announcement. No one would be griping if no mention was ever made of a longer cut in the first place.

It's funny how a better paced cut can make something seem less languorous even if it's got more stuffs in it. Not saying the DC is or isn't, but people might yet be surprised by it.

The pacing didn't need more running time

If you're referring to what I think, then I'm actually glad they didn't adapt it. It's the one aspect of the novel I didn't like.

I thought Doctor Sleep was just okay, I actually wasnt a fan of the 3rd act, but as a film it was....okay..

But I'm genuinely curious about this director's cut because the parts that I enjoyed most were character moments and I did feel that the film was condensed in a way to stick to the plot

DC sounds good. Hoping the new material makes the third act a little better(the article says there is more in the Overlook) as it’s my only issue with the film.

Warners doesn't do branching so box office is always going to dictate whether they are going to spring for an extra disc or not. It will also keep people from selling their codes.

Not in my book. I have no use for digital copies. If I need a copy on my computer, I'll rip the disc.

Oh well, I guess we should stop putting out 4Ks if they don't include everything on the 4K. It's not absolute bullsh--. This movie tanked and we are pretty dam- lucky we're getting a 4K at all. So a little less tantrums would be nice. Ok?

Still loved the movie, doesn’t mean I have to think it’s perfect.
You are right. You don't have to think it is perfect. I certainly don't. However, I think it is pretty close. Though, I haven't read the book in 3 years so I couldn't tell you squat about it. I can't tell you what I had for breakfast two weeks ago.

That was super cool of the director to reply to my tweet question!

From what I've seen, Mike Flanagan seems like a class act and a really good dude.

Mike Flanagan Details What to Expect from the 3-Hour Director’s Cut of ‘Doctor Sleep’ - Bloody Disgusting

Sounds like it's an entire restructuring and not just new footage.

Any chance of the digital copy included with the 4K disc release redeeming the director's cut in 4K?

One of my most looked forward to releases from this year and this is what they do to me

Honestly I’ll probably watch a digital version of the directors cut before purchasing the 4K set and if by some chance I prefer the directors cut then I’ll hold off for the possibility of it being released on 4K sometime in the future. But if I don’t like the directors cut then I’ll just nab the regular 4K release.

Well, the new material for “Midsommar” made that film inherently better in my view.

I already loved “Doctor Sleep” so I can’t see why a longer cut would hurt.
