Lions don't usually scrimp on the code despite their mini-major status but yeah, them having acquired the movie when they bought Anchor Bay means that they got whatever rights AB had negotiated, and if it didn't include digital then that was that. They seem to have lucked out with Evil Dead though, another AB acquisition, or perhaps they were able to newly buy the digital rights for cheaper than on Halloween? Dunno.

The new movie or the holiday?

So, I continued on with my Halloween marathon today. Yesterday I re-watched the 4k of pt 1, then the BD of part 2. Today I watched pt 4 and I have to say I REALLY liked this entry. The end was especially good IMO. I think it's even better than pt 2, and it's nearly as good as pt 1 for me. I had a busy day today, so I couldn't on move to pt 5, but IIRC it ties into pt 4 like 2 ties into pt 1.

I haven't really watched these since I was younger, and most likely not all of them were in the correct order. It's nice watching though all of these as an adult, to see how well they have held up to time and my changing tastes in film. Of course, I am watching these through the lens of nostalgia, so there's that...lol!

Hmmm. I definitely remember seeing more during the "see anything you like" scene, but maybe that's a fake memory.

So the Xbox One came out with a firmware update that added Dolby Vision as a supported format. Just wondering, does anybody know if it only works with streaming services? When I tried watching my Halloween 4k disc last night, it was only loading in HDR and not Dolby Vision. I can't find any info on disc support. I own a LG OLED B7A, so I already know my TV supports Dolby Vision

It's only streaming for now. Disc support is rumored to be added later but who knows.

Oh well, hopefully it comes out pretty soon. I can't afford a new region free 4k player that plays Dolby Vision at the moment, although the Sony UBP-X700 has been calling my name lately

That is far less plausible that a maniac running around in a Shatner mask who can't be killed.

Actually, it kind of is- one magically impervious guy versus a rewriting of the entire space-time continuum.

Only for streaming at this time and mostly for Netflix which supports Dolby Vision for all resolutions UHD, Super HD, SD, HDR and the app itself. Dolby Vision for 1080p movies give a little uptick kind of those 4K or 2K restoration Blu-Rays. Waiting for Dolby Vision for Xbox One Amazon Prime because I watched Jack Ryan on LG TV Amazon Prime app and it was in Dolby Vision (which is odd because I had no Amazon Prime streamed DV and no where says they do) which looked so damn beautiful.

Continuing with my Halloween marathon, I watched pt 5 and the theatrical cut of Curse today.

I must admit that after part 4, I felt pt 5 was a bit of a letdown. Although they didn't totally retcon the ending of 4, they certainly side skirted it, and made zero attempt to really explain what they had set up at the end of pt 4. In fact, they kinda created a different ending to it, and one that I felt was a bit beyond the suspension of disbelief, even for a slasher flick.

I was disappointed with the way they handled Loomis in here as well. Why have his character act borderline psychotic/obsessed? Yes, I get that stopping Michael has been his life work, but never before has he been portrayed with so much intent in his purpose, that he will act the way he did in here. I will not get into spoilers, but through the series, he has been portrayed as the guy who is the "safety" for the others in the films. He didn't make much sense in here. In fact, I felt the entire plot seemed a bit dodgy in this one. As if several disjointed ideas were mashed together to pad the run time and keep the film moving forward.

Also, I thought the attempts to add humor by dubbing in comical music with the local police was rather horrid. None of the other films up to this point felt that a sense of humor was needed, why did they feel they needed to throw that cornball stuff in here.

I did feel the theatrical cut of part 6 was a bit better again, though. Sure, it was filled with a lot of mumbo jumbo druid cult stuff, but I found it to be entertaining nonetheless. I have read the producers cut is even better and will be checking it out soon. I am sure this entry in the series has its critics as it upends some of the (not really explained) lore behind Micheal's behavior and motivation. Here they attempt to explain it a bit, but still end up leaving it kind of muddy. That may have more to do with the editing on this cut though, I won't know until I watch the producers cut.

I will say that this film had some of my favorite kills of the series thus far, and additionally had a few genuinely chilling moments. I generally am not at all frightened by any film in this series, but there was one scene in particular (John Strode in the basement) that I really felt the tension as the scene progressed. Very nice!

Anyway, that's it for these two. Tomorrow I will move to H20 and Resurrection.

People who are reporting flashing on this disc, is it while watching with Dolby Vision or HDR? I’m watching this for the first time in Dolby Vision and I’m getting crazy flashing when Laurie goes into the house where all her friends are.

I think II and 4 are the only worthwhile sequels. 5 was such a disappointment, it seemed like a cheap DTV flick to me. Complete waste IMO, real shame.
