I apologize if this post has repetitious insights from the entire earlier thread:
I bought the 4K release of this, my very first 4K purchase! However, I do not yet have a 4K Blu-ray player so I have to watch the standard Blu-ray for now. This post is for people complaining about the lack of the Original Mono audio. Have any of you popped in the standard Blu-ray? The Original Mono IS INCLUDED as an option under the Set Up. I don't know what the original mono audio is supposed to sound like so I'll leave it to the experts to determine if it's genuinely labeled. I just wanted to point this out because many said the mono soundtrack was not on this release at all. I'm not sure why but perhaps they chose not to/could not include the Original Mono on the 4K disc but still included it on the Blu-ray disc in the set? Set Up menu contents of standard Blu-ray: -Dolby Digital 5.1 -PCM 5.1 Uncompressed -Original Mono -Audio Commentary... -Subtitles I assume this list differs from the 4K Set Up menu? I also noticed the standard Blu-ray DOES NOT have the TV Version Footage. Can someone that has the 4K disc confirm where they appear on there? Is it under Special Features? People are complaining because the blu ray in the 15/10 disc Halloween set uses the same restoration as the UHD and also has the original mono. For some like myself watching at 1080p with that disc w/ original mono is a superior experience to watching at 4k with a downmix or 5.1. What is the purpose of buying the 4k disc if you are going to watch the included 1080p blu ray for the original mono anyway? |

Best version of this film is the 1080p BD in the 15/10 disc box sets. New restoration + original mono. |

No. The best version of the film is the 4K.

35th Anniv release got a new 7.1 mix which is on 4k disc and is better than the older 5.1 mix shame 4k never got Atmos upgrade, but PQ looks bit better so for me 4k is the winner |

Call it blasphemy but honestly, I could care less about the original mono. It's a damn shame it's not there for those that do care, but 9 times out of 10 I prefer remixed surround tracks over the original mono.
And besides that, IMO the PQ for this is too good too pass on just because it doesn't have the original mono audio. I don't see (hear?) anything wrong with the 7.1 audio track for that matter either. Just my 2 cents. ![]() |

Understandable viewpoint, from my vantage we will see this released again as a double dip virtually guaranteed so no point to buy this one. Will wait until they put out a 4k with the orig mono on it, I so like the 4k colors timing a tad better.

If you would've read my post, I explained I do not yet have a 4K Blu-ray player. I thought people were mostly upset about the original mono being available on the previous set and then removed, from the Blu-ray also, from this set. So technically it's included in the set, just not on the 4K disc. That's the point I was trying to make. |

At least if this is the deal breaker for some, there's an actual way to get a hold of that audio... just with 1080p video to accompany it. |

This link explains all the mono and special features discrepancies. I had no idea the standard Blu-ray in the set was not from the 4K remaster. What a bummer.

Despite the fact I don't care about the mono track myself, I absolutely agree with you on this. The original (mono) audio tracks for catalogue releases should be present at all times.
