And you can't say that the steelbooks sold out since Amazon has had THREE sales instances of them, and may have more. You don't know how many sold, and there hasn't been an eBay sale of one in four days.

So just for clarification when you all say the "original disc" you're saying, even though the video is wonky, the 2018 UHD of STM has the correct audio options. If that is in fact the case (and it's the identical disc) then for me canceling the 5 disc Amazon 4k steelbook set and just buying the Zavvi Superman II 4k steelbook (even if they screwed it up as well) is the lesser of two evils.

Yes. And also yes the s2 standalone has the same sound setup as the new s1 standalone.

Yes, but make sure you have the right version of the 2018 disc. WB put out a NEW version with the SAME UPC code. If it doesn't say "Digital Copy" than it's the new disc with the 5.1 70mm track replaced with the awful 2.0 track.

Therefore, the cardboard slipcover alone for this release is worth approximately 5.5x as much as the contents of the disc.

You might not like the reality of the situation, but that is the reality of the situation.

This is why I preorder early and often to ensure I get a slipcover, steel, or what have you. I curate and upgrade my disc library as updated editions come out. The old ones stay sealed until I'm actually ready to watch them. If an improved version comes out, the old one goes on eBay.

I'm ashamed to say it, but I've bought some horror films I haven't seen just because the premium packaging broke my will to resist.

Nope, which is why I never trust rumors that a disc is going to have a new transfer until it’s announced or in peoples hands.

Just checked and my Superman 4k has the slip and it does say digital code so looks like I'm good. Thanks for the heads up. I do wonder how much of a difference having DV will make on the video of the new disc. Look a little better and sound not so good?

Remember the Star Trek: TMP DC set? Every five minutes someone would ask the same question about which version had this and which version had that.

It's an inherent problem with forums as a whole. There's no marker in a thread that says "here's the FAQ".

You can’t be serious…finally redoing the series and having to reissue STM where you could actually address the video issues in an early format release…but you touch nothing EXCEPT to remove the best sounding theatrical mix of the film that was finally presented discrete if lossy 5.1 and previously had only appeared as matrixed 2.0 back in 1990 on the letterbox Laserdisc release.
Does Warner try to find new ways to screw stuff up? It seems like it.

Anyone who has the unfortunate experience of hearing the original Dolby stereo mix in a theater knows just how pitifully bad it is. It is MUCH worse in a theater than at home. It practically plays better when not decoded and just left stereo. The mono mix (which I’ve only heard short clips of) is probably better overall.
