Arrow really should have made RoboCop their first UHD. Still can't get my head wrapped around that one as to why they didn't.

Btw you really should give Halloween II a chance, while not nearly as good as the original, it's a very good sequel nevertheless.

I tried when I bought it on DVD whenever that was new. I tried 2 months ago. Its a really bad slasher in a hospital with Laurie and mike. Nothing more than a total b movie fest.

Robocop yeah. Same with Barry Lyndon on Criterion. Gotta admit though. We are a rare breed.

Does someone else have this problem that the movie is incredibly dark in certain scenes?
Especially the entire scene when Laurie is in the Wallace's house.

Can anyone confirm if the new Italian or French 4k release have the correct framing or if is just the same as the US & UK release. Also does any 4k release include the true mono audio track?

Does the bluray from the set have the same letterboxing/shifting problem the 4K does?

No, only the current 4k release has this.

I saw this in the theatre last Halloween for it's 40th anniversary and they showed this new transfer. I also found it incredibly dark to where you couldn't even see certain things and bordered on black crush a lot of the time. One scene in particular is when Laurie is standing by the open room door scared and Michael's mask appears (or supposed to anyway which also happens to be in the Wallace house). It was so dark that you couldn't even really see Michael's mask but you heard the music the moment his mask was supposed to appear but without being able to see it it came off as really odd. I wasn't nuts about the framing either.

So it is supposed to look this dark? If I keep my tv settings as is, this scene is the best example.
You only see a bit of his mask when he walks towards Laurie.
When the music comes in, you see nothing much at all.

Other scenes don't have this much darkness, even if set in the dark.
But most scenes in the Wallace house are incredibly dark on my TV.

Revisted this disc last night. It's insane how beautifully rendered the grain is on this release compared to the 35th Anniversary blu. Lack of authentic mono aside, I really, really like this presentation.

No I personally don't think it's supposed to be this dark. I don't understand the deep black levels with UHD apparently being how it was intended to look. I've never seen a film with these deep black levels in the cinema or anywhere.

As far as the shifting I can't recall exactly but the framing is tighter on the UHD. A good example is when PJ Soles reveals her chest. It crops some of it off to where you can't see much on the UHD compared to the blu ray. At least that's how it was in the theatre when I saw it. I've seen other members post about tighter framing as well.

40 minutes into the film the aspect ratio goes from 2.35:1 to 2.39:1.

kind of annoying, but not a big deal.
