I just bought what I'm hoping is the 2018 4K on Ebay. It has a slipcover with the 80th Anniversary logo on the bottom right and on the wrap on the back of the case it says it was made in Mexico & Germany (I know the one released in March just says Mexico). Without opening yet and checking, does that sound like the 2018 version with the 5.1 70mm audio?

And an issue with color grading or something, brown hues have been spotted and shown.

I hope they fix this .....

If it's on the disc, they won't fix anything. Already baked into the cake. They will say it was an "artistic choice" and not an error.

Can someone confirm if WB put the old Blu-ray with the wrong color grading with the 2018 UHD? Or they created a new 1080p disc based on the 2018 UHD transfer?

From what I understand (regarding Superman: The Movie): In the US it came with the theatrical cut BD from the anthology box set. In other countries it came with the SE BD. In neither case was it sourced from the master for the 2018 4K UHD BD. I'm unaware of any known significant color grading issue with the 1080p BDs. I think the grading for the 2018 UHD 4K is far more questionable, and has a significant issue with at least one segment if not more.

Or is this continuing discussion about Superman II in the STM thread?

I thought you knew all 4 movies looked like someone turned on the f.LUX software by accident, making their picture looking warmer than it should.

And that includes the old Superman: The Movie Blu-rays, which for the theatrical cut, it can only be the Anthology boxset (didn't know there were others...), while the director's cut was released, too, in 2011, and if there is a disc before that, had the same problem (I believe the revisionism started in 2006, when all movies got new DVDs, I owned the 1st Superman IV disc from region 1).

The 2018 UHD has problems of its own - the thing is, the colors are less "vivid" in comparison.

The question I asked here was if the Blu-ray that is included with the 2018 UHD is the Anthology disc, and not one based on the UHD job.

Because it's also possible to create a 1080p copy with a similar image based on that UHD.

This is a 1080p MKV (lossy) with a few GB, which is very much like the 4K:

While this is what the official Blu-ray looks like:

I can only assume that if they had released a new Blu-ray/1080p disc based on the 2018 job, the image would be very similar to my first capture. You can tell right away they are not from the same source.

It makes no sense to not create new Blu-rays, for the Batman UHD boxset released in 2019, all 1080p discs were remastered, too.

That mkv looks more like it's lacking the PQ/2020curves?
I would think it'd look more like this? :

Actual PQ/2020 screenshot from 2918 UHD:

It was probably created based on the 2018 UHD.

But if it's not an official release, then it means WB didn't even bother to put a remastered BD for all these movies.

It looks like the 2023 UHD boxset also has the same old 1080p discs for the sequels.

Why????????

WB did release remastered BDs for all Batman movies... they are all different from the 2008/2009 counterparts.

No. It’s not minor. Mistakes are there. Plain and simple. At £130 a pop you should be getting a product that doesn’t have issues. Mad Max had them, Rocky has them and now this. Dirty Harry is coming soon and based on WB track record I don’t hold out much hope. How long does it take to get the basics right? If this keeps happening and people keep buying nothing will change and WB will keep winging it!

OK. Let me try to get this straight about the pitch issue in the main titles. Would this issue involve the playout of the score in the movie's titles or something along those lines?

I was thinking that the octaves used in the main titles in these new 4k's are a little bit higher than usual as to what was used with the previous masters of this movie.

I couldn't even hear the supposed pitch issues in Rocky II, so I doubt 99.9% of people are going to care...or notice...

It amounts to something like an old cassette stretch where it sounds fine and then goes off key slightly for a few moments.

90% of these issues seem to be with the new Atmos track or whatever and I use the original theatrical audio when possible. That's why they don't really bother me in the vast majority of cases. I don't even bother getting the replacements.
