I've never owned Halloween in any format yet, maybe I'll make this my first one.

Thanks so much for this information. Which of the blu ray releases would you say comes closest to the earliest home video releases? And do you know roughly what the German and Australian transfers look like respectively?

I totally forgot that Halloween II and III have 4K scans in the Scream Factory steelbooks, so they're ready to go. I imagine the only thing keeping Shout from releasing them on UHD would be getting the rights from Universal to release a 4K disc. Likely their initial contract was for blu-ray only. My hopes are high they could arrange something to coincide with this re-release of the original, unless they're waiting for next year to have something to release when Halloween Ends (hopefully) comes out.
They should just do it now for Halloween II's 40th anniversary .
The people have spoken Shout! Give them to us.

I can’t wait for SF’s September release announcement to see if Halloween 2 and 3 are coming. Since part 1 will in the September lineup if the sequels are getting a release this year then it only makes sense to be released together in the same month. I wonder when we can expect the September announcement.

These were the two releases I was referring to:

Unfortunately, I can't track down captures of them anywhere. I thought they were at caps-a-holic.com, but then I remembered that I had actually seen comparison screen grabs at the now-defunct OHMB.net. My memory is a bit fuzzy on the finer details of what they looked like, but I want to say they were relatively similar transfers but had their differences.

I'll keep searching to see if I can dig something up.

Maybe at the end of the month at Comic Con like the usually do? Seems like the type of thing they’d make a big announcement for.

I really hope... H2 ...and... H3... are coming this year.

It'd be a real stab in the back (no pun intended) if Scream didn't.

There's no reason to put another ...HALLOWEEN UHD... out this soon ... unless Malek Akkad and the dude who owns the 3-4hrs of outtakes from film.... make a deal.

Vinyl is the niche market movies on disc will be soon enough, but the difference is the studious have streaming services they want to sell with exclusive content. I'm not aware of that being a thing with music (though I don't pay much attention tbh).

Essentially the same as the Lionsgate, but it does have the original mono. If that’s your gig.

In 93 no one in a million years imagined vinyl making a comeback of any sort. 28 years ago none of us were online.. I doubt you can imagine what will be going on 28 years from now with movies or music for that matter.

It looks like the German UHD is slightly brighter than the Lionsgate, judging from the comparisons at Caps-a-holic. If I had known this one existed and that it has the original mono, I would’ve bought it when it came out. But for now, I’ll wait and see what the forthcoming Shout Factory UHD looks and sounds like.

But he didn't say Ultra HD was going away soon, he said it was the last physical media format [for movies]. Likewise, vynil, Compact Disc and Blu-ray Audio are probably the last mass-produced physical media consumer products for music. I really can't imagine anything widely produced after Ultra HD either. What's the point, with UHD already being such a small, ever shrinking percentage of overall viewing and the specs already allowing so many colors, 8.3 million pixels and uncompressed 3D audio? It's not like movie studios are in a hurry to go above 60 frames a second. The 100 GB capacity is one limitation (more for longer movies with lots of audio tracks, high frame rate movies and TV shows), but any studio will compress files or split them across multiple discs before trying to sell people another format.

If they get Halloween mostly right the next time, that's probably the last time it gets a new remaster on physical media.

You must not, because exclusive tracks on vinyl are becoming a rampant problem for people like me who despise the format. But none of that has anything to do with my point. Vinyl was dead, dead, dead in 1993 and now here it inexplicably is, back again, outselling CDs and, due to collectors, holding its own against garbage quality but oh-so-convenient streaming. Unlike vinyl, HD discs are a near unimpeachable playback medium, so if vinyl can rise from the dead, so can video discs (unless streaming somehow gets to the point where it consistently matches or exceeds UHD bit rates, then we’re in real trouble). Furthermore, my more specific point (which addressed Warm Gun’s statement) is that, if you had told us in 1993 what the physical media world would look like in 2021, particularly with regard to vinyl superseding CDs, our brains would’ve melted (actually, living through that truth in 2021 has pretty done just that to my brain pan), so we truly have no idea what the future holds for video discs. Every time I hear the pronouncement that they’re on their death bed, I think of old, dumb ass vinyl and cock an eyebrow.

It wasn't even anything substantial. It's literally at a specific time stamp that you otherwise won't notice unless it's pointed out to you.

And there was hardly anything wrong with the color-timing.

The UHD from Lionsgate is easily the best Carpenter's 'Halloween' has ever looked on a home format.

And maybe it never should since it’s capable of superior quality compared to CDs.

Only thing about Vinyl that needs to go away is the 30 dollar price tag.
