I would take young Sean Young over her in a heartbeat. Daryl Hannah too, actually. In the full punk outfit. Come to think of it, there wasn't even much punk in the cyberpunk sequel, aside from those hookers. Acting-wise, it's stupid to compare, since they played totally different types of characters.

I did like Sean Young in Ace Ventura (way too much makeup in Blade Runner), but Daryl Hannah never did anything for me. Now stick that blue wig on Ana and I'm sold. She was crazy (literally) in Knock Knock with Keanu Reeves, but the shower scene was great.

If you are watching The Matrix for the kung fu, you might as well just waste your time with The Avengers or some other action-packed film.

Mainstream media forums can be so exhausting. You click on a Star Wars conversation and bam! You're reading hundreds of pages of parroting complaints about Lucas's edits and how he ruined your life. You click on a Matrix thread and bam! You're reading dozens of pages of pseudo-intellectuals parroting nonsensical comments about how they hated the Matrix sequels.

It's like we're living in the matrix.

Okay then, cut out all six months of training that Reeves, Fishburne, Moss and Weaving did for The Matrix and see how much crappier the fights would have been. There's a reason they train. Clearly they can't move like martial arts actors who have done this almost their whole lives. But it matters. And it's easier when you are younger. You could see how exhausting it was for the actors in the making of footage, and that was between 19 and 23 years ago.

Him reeling them in gave us a worse version of Assassins, that led to the first Matrix as he realised it was a mistake.

Yes, agreed. I'd recommend watching Hardware to compensate and satisfy those cyberpunk cravings.

I’m not sure how to respond to this. It isn’t really relevant to what I said.

Yeah, Lana handled the second season and movie of Sense8 on her own *very* well, I have no doubts that she’s done well with Resurrections.

And the Wachowskis have always made it a point not to do things for nostalgia’s sake or to do the same thing twice; both have said that if there’s nothing new they can say by returning to The Matrix, they never would. Warner might lean heavy on nostalgia for marketing, of course, but I’m expecting something more.

I just thought it was an appropriate response because you said people should not be watching The Matrix for the kung fu. But that was one part of the appeal.

People are saying that the new Matrix ignores the sequels but there is a shot in the trailer where Neo is being resurrected and his body has burned out eyes like at the end of Revolutions. So I'm happy it is a 4th and not a reboot or sequel that ignores previous sequels. I like the sequels so that's great news. Plus it's called Resurrections and hints that Neo doesn't remember the past. Looks great.

They magically resurrect Trinity too? She was so whiny in Revolutions, I was ready for a replacement anyway. Ana de Armas from Knock Knock would have been great.

I still say the 3rd movie would have been way better and things would have made a lot more sense and this resurrection theme would be easier to swallow if the "real world" was actually another part of the Matrix all along. That's what I was expecting when it turned out Neo could stop those Squideee robots in the real world. If it wasn't really the real world, it makes sense it would work since they're in the Matrix. It would have been a great mind screw as well.

All along Zion was never in the real world or the sewers or any of it! Just make them THINK they "woke up" and their brain has the illusion of "choice" between the real world and the Matrix. But no. Squidee war and Mr. Smith taking over everyone else when he was flipping DESTROYED in the 1st movie.... Oh yeah. Great direction to go guys (or girls as it were)!

Simulation within a simulation worked for Fassbinder's World on a Wire, but I don't think The Matrix has the slow mystery for it. They're action movies with a simple love story that dabble in philosophy a bit. It would have been annoying, I think.

Yes that would have been idiotic. The sequels managed to pull the rug out from under the audience, and the main characters, in less hacky ways than that kind of “twist”.

It's like we're living in the matrix.
You don't already know we're living in a simulation? We know at least that if simulations like the matrix are possible, and actual, that we cannot rightly assume we are in base reality any longer. Since that is not currently knowable the stats is 50/50 we are. But, again, if we created simulations within a timeframe from now that confirmed simulations were possible to make, millions would be (even if individuals made some fraction, many more orders AI generated) and that would instantly confirm simulation theory and the likelihood we lived in base reality becomes improbable by a margin our brains cannot fathom.

There's also a shot where the scene from the first Matrix is literally projected on the wall:

I'm 100% sure that it will come, but I want a 4K steelbook for Matrix: Resurrections.
