Keeping fingers crossed...
• A Blu-ray disc (sporting the new transfers) will be included in each release as well as some previously existing bonus features. Potentially more are in progress and we’ll update you in the future with those details when they come in. |

Cinematography and film stock are two very different things, one is not dependent on the other at the time of filming, if it was (which 6 was) shot on film. 6 has low production value, not poor film stock.

Sending little compressed screenshots and production stills from Google Images is a funny way to make an argument but ok. Here's a picture of a cute dog: ![]() |

I don’t think it’s necessarily “cheaper,” it’s just the stock as is. There have been many interviews with Cameron and McTiernan about the look of ALIENS and PREDATOR. Yes, they’re grainy…but not cheap. They’ve said that was the film stock they had at the time. Cameron even said Kodak discontinued the film stock a few years later

Someone with more knowledge on how this works can correct me, but from what I've learned in school, It's not that it has to do with the cost of the film stock, but the condition of the film stock when scanned. If a film reel is not stored properly, the chemicals applied in the development process can erode slightly. Grain is natural, but the white, light exposed grain appears when the film reels get chemical layer on the film gets exposed to light.

Halloween really looks more expensive than it was. Expertly handled 35mm Panavision anamorphic photography adds a lot of production value. It's the main reason the movie looks so much more polished than all the slasher films it inspired. |

I thought this argument (and this whole thread, frankly) was supposed to be about Halloween (1978), not the look of its cheesy 5th sequel. Also, was Halloween Kills even shot on film?? You’re comparing two completely different mediums and aesthetics with that one.

To be fair, you're comparing a shot of the Producer's Cut of Halloween 6, which wasn't completely finished, to Halloween Kills, which has been finished for the better part of a year.

Rule one with that user. Don’t take most of their posts serious. They don’t even spell Kurosawa correctly in their name. They seem to be having a laugh.

Does anyone know if there will be a review here at Blu-Ray.com before these Halloween 4K movies are released?

There might be, it depends on how early the reviewer gets their copies of the discs. If there's not, there is a chance there will be a review on the forum before they are released.

Yeah that's a big commitment biting on all 5. I'm gonna cherry pick III for now. There HAS to be a UHD boxset at some point, it would make too much money to not do it.

Why would they make a big UHD box set with the back half of the series if the individuals don't sell? Scream Factory would think there isn't a market for these on 4K (or worse, since Halloween is generally dependable, that there isn't a market for ANYTHING on 4K)

Eh. All Scream Factory would need to do is license the Miramax films from Paramount (at least for the boxset) license the Zombie films from Spyglass (Sony no longer has RZH2 BTW), and get Universal to agree to let them include the Blumhouse films, which I don’t think would be that impossible, although I would imagine that would be a year or so after Halloween Ends comes out on home video. I wouldn’t hope for such a set until 2023 or even 2024 at the earliest. Last edited by GeoffOliver; 07-07-2021 at 04:36 PM. |
