Thank you. I had completely forgotten about the press release. I'm always getting confused about which movie is getting a brand new transfer or repacking or simple upscale.

I've deleted my question

Will the official reviews start dropping days or weeks before release? And will this $27 price hold until then? I'm thinking I'll wait to order until I hear the official word on if these are "the best these films have ever looked" or not.

I won't give crushed items as Christmas gifts unless it has no effect on the product inside (like a cooking pan set in a box maybe, but even then if it's demolished I'd be embarrassed to wrap it up). And there are tons of forums all over the internet with people talking about their packaging issues. So they have to be bleeding money from all the damaged returns.
I've used Amazon weekly for like 10 years now and I've returned maybe 2 or 3 things that entire time for damage. Maybe your delivery guy is a sadist or maybe you're super anal, but either way don't assume your experience is common. Amazon exist to make money, so if their packaging cost them more in returns than they save using it, they wouldn't use it. They're not trolling you.

Is it confirmed that this new upcoming UHD Blu-ray from Shout! Factory will have a different transfer from the 2018 Lionsgate UHD?

Yes. Mentioned a few times. The Shout! Transfer is a new 4K scan or the OCN. The Lionsgate 4K was an “introspective scan,” (I’m not sure that’s the correct title of what they did). But do a quick search of the thread. You’ll find all kinds of goodies about the new transfer

I've been using Amazon regularly since 2003, and I have received two damaged items. One was a Blu-ray in a Steelbook that was listed as dented/damaged, and the other was a case of Pop-Tarts (they were all in pieces, and I honestly should have known better).

I read complaints all the time about receiving damaged movies from Amazon, and I am very glad that hasn't happened to me.

I've used Amazon since 2002. You lot are very, very lucky in your experiences. My returns for damages have been in the 100s easily, but I've also ordered thousands of items from them. Books, vinyl and movies, from my experience, have a very good chance of coming damaged because of their lack of care in packing. I used to get heavy hardback books in jiffy pop mailers (anyone remember that era?) on the reg, lots of dented books sent back. Their reputation is well deserved and has stayed consistent at least since 2010 when their shipping boxes became rarer than hen's teeth. For awhile the foreign Amazons were way better than the US site, but over time I'd say they're all about the same now, kind of like McDonald's.

OCN = original camera negative

The original camera negative (OCN) is the film in a traditional film-based movie camera which captures the original image.

Is the "introspective scan" basically a scan of a copy?

I've been able to cancel pre-orders as close as the day of release (on occasions where Amazon is just sloooow), so I'm not concerned about a few weeks. If you're worried about the price holding, you can just get your order in now to guarantee the price and cancel if things don't pan out in the coming weeks.

These. I've done returns before, but it's usually been for books with torn dust jackets more than anything. I've had broken BD cases before, but since I've got a surplus of empty replacements I use for eco-cases, that's never a worry. If the disc plays, the cover art's in one piece, and the slip/case/box doesn't have some gash in it, I'm fine. Maybe because I'm not a steelbook guy, I've never had to worry about the denting issue.

That said, I'm not really in a rush to use these Halloween 4Ks, so if one or two need to have replacements, it's not gonna kill me.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but if anyone's interested, REMIND magazine is dedicating its September issue to the HALLOWEEN franchise.

You can pre-order a copy for $5.99 and it will ship September 14th. It will also be available at Barnes and Noble on September 28th.

Some of what's in the issue:

* Brand new interview with John Carpenter and HALLOWEEN KILLS director, David Gordon Green

* 13 Things you didn't know about HALLOWEEN

* The Music of John Carpenter

* The misunderstood legacy of HALLOWEEN III

* The twists and turns of the HALLOWEEN franchise

* Sneak peak at HALLOWEEN KILLS

* Exploring Michael Myers

* HALLOWEEN collectibles and more!

Justin Beahm is guest editor for the issue along with Malek Akkad, Chris Alexander, Nat Brehmer, BJ Colangelo, Michael Dougherty, Anthony C. Ferrante, Justin Mabry, Ben Scrivens, Jerry Smith, Heather Wixson and Chris Zephro.

I guess I'm also a lucky Amazon user. I've never had to return anything and have gotten plenty of boxes with extra bubble wrap for new releases. I don't think I've ever had anything arrive that wasn't pristine, in fact. I wonder if it's a regional thing with how they deliver?

Truth be told, I only use them because my wife has to have the prime account for work. I have a still-thriving B&M where I live and for which I'm grateful- I get many things there and am always glad to support them, but in order to survive in the current climate, they charge retail for most new releases and I'm not gonna pay 40 bucks for any of the new Halloween releases.

I've never heard of them. I hope they're good. I'll pick my copy up at B&N when it arrives if it looks interesting. I'll scan through the pages and see.

Or they organize a massive returns process that involves an untold number of physical locations like UPS stores and Kohl's rather than change the front end of their shipping process. Believe me, the piles of returned items you'll see behind the Amazon counter at even a sleepy suburban Kohl's is no joke. It's pretty clear they prioritize fast & cheap shipping over everything else. Returns from people who actually care about the condition of the item they're buying is simply a price they're willing pay to keep most customers happy. I know I'm generally satisfied with their shipping of everything except physical media.

Oh, and to stay on topic: I will not be pre-ordering any of the Halloween 4Ks from Amazon. I've moved to a state where Diabolik doesn't charge sales tax so I'll probably go with them given their current asking price. Bull Moose would be a good option too due to free shipping but they currently cost a bit more there than at Diabolik unfortunately.

I'd say it's a safe bet they'll drop to $27.99 by release date at Bull Moose. They don't advertise a pre-order price guarantee like Amazon does, but if the price drops after you order it they'll charge the lower price when they ship it. Whenever I pre-order something there early I always end up charged less than the total I'm given at checkout.
