Battle of the Five Armies’ extended footage is absolutely essential IMO. I think it’s only around 20 extra minutes, but it amazes me how much of a difference a few extra character moments and some new awesome battle footage can make.
Not only in the battle but in the end at the funeral. That is essential. It battle of the five armies also bumped it to an R rating.

The funeral should not have been cut. Out of all the extended scenes across 6 movies, that is the most important one added back in.

Check it again in 4-5 days when the temp pre-auth goes away and see waht the posted charge is -- unless the preorder is actually in the next week I guess.

Hmm, so the Noble Collection ring that the LotR gift set includes is sold for $50 but their Thorin Key replica is only $30. If they do end up doing a matching Hobbit gift set with it, I wonder if it’ll retail $20 less than the LotR set

Also make sure that the pre-orders qualify for the B2G1 free deal. Technically the promo isn’t supposed to include pre-orders but some movies do work while others do not. For example, Back to the Future is excluded while LotR is not.

It will tell you if they qualify or not. I did three preorders as well that were in the deal. GOT 4k collection sadly was not available.

Definitely. That and Saruman’s exclusion from Return of the King theatrical are the two biggest “wtf?” cuts IMO.

On The Hobbit I'm not convinced yet. Creating new masters for a new format; doesn't say anything yet. It's just a master that fits in the 4K realm. Besides The Hobbit movies are not thát old. They have high quality 2K DI's to work from. They could tweak it by replacing all intro logos, texts, burned in subtitles and end credits to render those in 4K resolution for example.

The fact The Middle Earth Ultimate set in the Summer of 2021, will again use the previous released Blu-rays, is a sign for me too. Let's see how both two formats look color grade wise as well.

The Lord of the Rings however is getting newly remastered standard Blu-rays in the Middle Earth Ultimate Set next year. On LotR I leave all options open.

Even Sony used the "4K remastered" sentence on the Moon (2009). Which was even shot on film, but clearly the same DI was used. Pure marketing.
I'm not too concerned about since the first Pacific Rim had a identical aesthetic to the Hobbit (Shot up to 5k digially and possibly finished at 2k) for 3-D I believe and it's I'm the best upscale I've seen this far.

Oh they did. That was the only reason I ordered them. The 2 preorder movies were Coming to America and They Live.

I don't preorder anything 3-4 month in advance for this exact reason. I don't like the idea of merchants charging my debit/credit card 3 months before I get my items. One month is not so bad, but 2-3 months or more is way too long.

You're paying one way or the other. I don't see what the big deal is unless someone's living paycheck to paycheck.

Target doesn't charge for pre-orders. They do put a hold on the funds just to make sure you have the credit. It'll come off in a couple of days.

I agree on Five Armies Extended scenes being Essential. After watching the Extended cut and seeing the funeral I will, to this day, never understand why it was cut from the film to begin with.

There’s been reports WB were heavily pushing for TBOTFA to be as short as possible and were allegedly recutting the film behind Jackson’s back (which is apparently why a lot of the character moments such as the funeral and Bofur’s goodbye to Bilbo were cut in favour of the action and comedy scenes). It’s even been thrown around that the extended edition of TBOTFA might actually be Jackson’s original theatrical cut before WB got involved, with cast and crew all confirming that the extended edition is the version of the film that most represents Jackson’s intent.

I honestly doubt that their intended cut was the R rated one.

Money is not the problem. If me or anybody else was living paycheck to paycheck, I wouldn't be able to buy movies at all. I'll be spending my money on all of the essentials of life to survive. Movies are entertainment, which I don't necessarily need and can do without.

So I got a response from SF Studios. They are saying that The Hobbit is coming to Scandinavia but the date is not locked in yet. Maybe there is a delay in the manufacturing and some regions will have to wait longer?

They have no info on the Steelbooks or any other variations yet. I have a feeling they just have to go along with WB’s plan for the nordic release.

Okay, thanks for letting us know. I do king of hope the Steelbooks do get released here too tbh. I'm not that into Steelbook as i used to be, but these were just too beautiful.
