Only because you've spelled her name wrong, it's Evangeline Lilly.

I'm just curious since TheDigitalBits' Bill Hunt said all 6 movies are getting new 4k masters for their December releases.
Bill Hunt spoke out on the LotR how it was sourced, not on The Hobbit.

On The Hobbit I'm not convinced yet. Creating new masters for a new format; doesn't say anything yet. It's just a master that fits in the 4K realm. Besides The Hobbit movies are not thát old. They have high quality 2K DI's to work from. They could tweak it by replacing all intro logos, texts, burned in subtitles and end credits to render those in 4K resolution for example.

The fact The Middle Earth Ultimate set in the Summer of 2021, will again use the previous released Blu-rays, is a sign for me too. Let's see how both two formats look color grade wise as well.

The Lord of the Rings however is getting newly remastered standard Blu-rays in the Middle Earth Ultimate Set next year. On LotR I leave all options open.

Even Sony used the "4K remastered" sentence on the Moon (2009). Which was even shot on film, but clearly the same DI was used. Pure marketing.

Know 48 isn't supported, but they could have made a compromise like Gemini Man did.

And it would look as crap as Gemini Man did. There is a reason HFR didn't take off, you know.

Because you didn't like it?
It hasn't taken off yet as there has been no killer app for it.

The Hobbit steelbooks actually look a lot better than the LOTR ones to me.

Yes but on Gemini Man the interpolated 60 and 24 versions were always part of the final workflow from the 120 original, and for a two-hour movie at that, but doing it from scratch for like nine hours of content is going to be very expensive. Same things were said about 4K rebuilds like LOTR is getting, fair enough, but if Warners said to them "we'll give you enough money to rebuild LOTR in 4K or interpolate the Hobbitses to 60p but you can't have both" then I know which one I'd bleedin' pick!

It's not the biggest deal, mind you, since the first Pacific Rim (Also Warner Bros.) was shot on 5k and finished at 2k just like the Hobbit Trilogy and its the best upscale 4k I've evey seen! But please clarify if you can.

A lot of people didn't like it, and it got slammed by critics that screened the movie before release. There was a reason that no other films were made that way, and even one film allegedly shot in the format (X-Men: Days of Future Past) that had it's HFR release scrapped.

I personally hated it myself in The Hobbit, but I think HFR can be useful for select shots and sequences (like panning shots) which is what James Cameron suggested recently.

This week at Target there’s a buy 2 get 1 free on movies. Order 2 of either trilogy, then order 1 of the other. After you pay, go back and cancel 1, order will update and you'll keep the discount.

Original discount is $89.99 for the 3 ($30 discount on each) after canceling 1 it goes down to $120 for both 4K trilogies.

Days of Future Past was not shot in HFR. Director Bryan Singer and cinematographer Newton Thomas Sigel considered it but then decided against it, opting to shoot the film in 3D 24FPS.

Gotcha-- the original rumor was that a film had been shot in HFR and then never released that way, and then speculation of that rumor was that it was Days of Future Past (so rumor-ception). That's why I always say "allegedly" because it was never confirmed.

That was people not understanding how they shot the quicksilver bits and how slow motion is filmed

When the original Planet Earth was released, there was a fantastic money shot of a great white shark snatching a seal or penguin up in the air out of the water. I just remember being amazed how such a slow motion shot can look so smooth and clear...so yea HFR has its place

I just pre-ordered the Hobbit 4K collection on Amazon since I'm curious to see the extended cuts, especially the Battle of the Five Armies one and I already own the LotR extended boxed set on Blu-Ray.

All the new footage for all three movies is great. The first movie has only 13 minutes extra I believe, but it’s all excellent.

Battle of the Five Armies’ extended footage is absolutely essential IMO. I think it’s only around 20 extra minutes, but it amazes me how much of a difference a few extra character moments and some new awesome battle footage can make.

Don't do this. When Target does their final charge on your card at shipping you will almost certainly get charged full price for both movies.
