I’m legitimately curious about what copy movie-censorship used as a reference to compare the cuts, because they specify they used the Aussie disc, but their review has the different visuals for the flashback. So, there’s a HD version online of the international cut that’s correct.

Any time I try to formulate a theory on these forums, I look foolish, aaaaand I look foolish enough. The only explanation is that the rights holder (i.e. Balboa Productions) supplied the correct DCP for the cinema, but the wrong file for streaming and disc (it’s the same deal on the Aussie iTunes version). Or, it was a last-minute decision to remove the hiker visuals, but the DCP was already prepared.

Anyway. I’m sorry. I screwed up

Nah, the real fool won't admit he made a mistake.

Other than that, wtf is going on with this movie and I'd like to know what a BD schnittberichte used as well then. Plus the silly movie is getting entirely too much attention.

Interesting. I doubt they’ll do a recall if it’s on every version of the extended cut on disc worldwide so far. It doesn’t sound like it’s the end of the world though, if you didn’t even notice the discrepancy when you watched the Australian disc originally.

Can't anybody have an opinion in here without getting picked apart? For a film like this, it might not be a big deal. For an entire foreign-language film, it is a big deal for me. If I'm looking at the movie, I can't read the text under the movie. I sit fairly close to my screen (about 10 feet away). At that distance, yeah, I need to adjust my eyes to below the image to read the subtitles if they're on the black bars. You're not supposed to be looking at the black bars - you're supposed to be looking at the movie.

Also, I wear glasses. So yeah, my peripheral vision is pretty restricted. I can see the black bars, sure. But I can't focus on reading text. And again, if I focus on the black bars, then I'm not watching the movie. Solution - have the subtitle on the film, where they belong anyways.

I don't really think they used the Aussie disc. They posted the cut review on Dez 22. Release of the Aussie disc was Dez 18. There is no way they've got it this fast and prepare the review.

But, there is a scene release with the logo of Zima Entertainment at the beginning which has the correct frames
[Show spoiler]of the wife and the body bag
. Zima Entertainment is a Mexican company.

Probably a download from a shady source?

Oh jeez I'm the opposite. I always buy players with subtitle shift ability as I'm sick of text dirtying up the image. To each his own though.

I would do this if I'd buy French BDs with forced subs for English audio. But I don't buy those.

Yeah, I sit even closer to my TV than that guy and I also wear glasses but I still prefer them in the black whenever possible.

6.5ft. from 65"-TV wearing glasses. I prefer them burnt-in in the picture. Like in the movies, with the specific font.

I mean, I get it - I've tried it myself, so it doesn't clutter up the movie, but for me, it just makes it more annoying trying to read them down there, so I far prefer them in the movie window. Different preferences I guess. That's how it works in the cinema and nobody complains.

Team "in the image," all day everyday. Having them in the black bars area reminds you the black bars are there, and feels off to me. I want everything about the movie contained in the movie image.

Yep, nothing takes you out of the movie like big white text right in the part of the screen that's meant to be ignored.

This is actually a good point and explanation. The whole idea is to ignore the black bars and focus on the movie. If you're constantly reading the subs on the black bars, you're not only not ignoring them but are in fact focusing on them.

Of course for some LCD TV's (like my LG) it's hard to ignore the bars anyways when they're more grey-black than black, especially when watching HDR, but the point remains.

Have you tried turning down the black level? That's the #1 culprit for greying the bars.

So what's the deal again, there's a flashback later in the movie that is supposed to flashback to the opening storm scene but instead shows us some Vietnam footage but with the wrong audio? Or is it that the opening storm scene isn't there and is replaced by a Vietnam flashback?
