I would say it's worth the upgrade. The mono on this release, while still heavily filtered, is the original mono track - the Lionsgate release uses a fold-down faux original mono. And the image quality is much better on this release for all the reasons described above. I would definitely say it's worth it.

I've actually never seen the extended cut and fully intend to watch that with Halloween 2 back to back this year, as if I was going back to 1981. :P
It’s a direct port of the EC they issued last time, warts and all. There were too many for me, so I made my own.

So far the consensus seems to be that this release has better picture detail as they scanned the OCN, whereas the Lionsgate release used an interpositive. Prices for the new editions are the best they are going to get.
The Scream disc has a better presentation of the mono track due to some tweaking. It is not the Criterion remaster but it is an uptick compared to Lionsgate/Anchor Bay’s track.

It sounds the same to me (just normalized). Are you basing this on how it sounds to you, or on that HDD review?

It sounds like all that was done to the filtered mono track on this release was use normalization to raise the overall volume. The damage has already been done to the file and making the track louder isn't going to bring back the damaged high end, the missing low end and the dynamics. A simple level match comparison of the 2014 mono mix and the 4K UHD mix should confirm this.

So this release essentially has the three HD colour timings that the US has gotten, then? Shout's new 4K version on the first two discs, the original 2003/2007 version on disc 3, and the 2013 transfer being utilized for the extended cut?

Anchor Bay did own the first, fourth and fifth film in the UK as well. I'm not sure what their current status is with Lionsgate having bought them out, since they didn't get any reissue from Lionsgate.

Much like how the Friday the 13th Part 2 back cover doesn’t have the found gore footage as that was a late addition after set was already produced.
The specs on the cases only list what was originally announced back in July. My guess is that, due to production delays and whatnot, SF has decided to simply list special features that were revealed in their initial announcements when they're putting the artwork together.

Criterion laserdisc is probably the closest to an actual theatrical colour timing presentation since it utilized an actual theatre-ready print fwiw. Unfortunately, it's close to 30 years old and in SD.

I didn't order directly from Scream, but can understand the frustration of anyone who feels like they should have gotten their orders (or at least a shipment notice) before the discs are sitting on BB shelves...

How it sounds on my Atmos system: Onkyo set to Direct from Sony 4K 700 Blu-ray player, compared to the one from the box set.

pretty shocking how UK has ignored most of these, we've still not had orig Pt2 on BD
do the UK labels not realise how popular these are, and how much money could be made,
there was a rumour Arrow might have first one or two, but can't understand why they haven't been picked up by someone already,
even if rights are expensive they would make a killing, esp a collector's set like this around Halloween
Couldn't agree more with you. It's really frustrating isn't it? I mean, other countries like Italy got a full Halloween blu-ray boxset. Part II has weirdly never been released here on blu-ray, which I find so odd. Same for Curse of Michael Myers. Then there is the complicated rights issue with H20, which hasn't since a release since DVD under the Buena Vista/Disney label. One thing is for sure, we'll always have someone release the very first film and the recent sequels.

The 2013 transfer, with the added scenes upscaled from SD (the original elements have long been lost). Audio was the 5.1 remix only, and it's also missing the 'May 1, 1964' title card before the first added scene. I also remember it not having any subtitles.
