Technical Note: For some reason, my Oppo 203 wouldn't play this 4K disc directly. I kept getting an "Unknown Disc" error. I had to insert the disc into the player, turn it off, and then upon startup the disc would load. Neither my Samsung player or my PC disc drive had any playback issue.

I got both the original and II from Best Buy and honestly the overall “slipbox” does look better in person. I think the combination of the more matte black with the orange colors, and more sturdy box makes it standout. The front is definitely not the best artwork for either but you can still feell Shout! put effort into it.



I watched the original a couple nights ago. Early impressions before a full review:

The picture is the best it has ever looked and it definitely beats the previous transfer from Lionsgate. In Dolby Vision anyway. I forgot to check how the compressions held up in HDR10.

Like others have said, the original mono is included but it’s basically the same as the one previously used so not sure there’s a whole lot more to say about it. The Atmos track is quite immersive in the beginning, and it definitely sets the mood for the rest of the film, even if the expanded soundstage isn’t as active in the last two thirds.

I really had a good time watching it and I think the better quality made me enjoy it the most I’ve ever had.

The Halloween 4Ks and the upcoming Mad Max 4Ks are the most excited I've been for a release (or releases) in a long, long time!

Yeah, they really did not stick to the timeline from their email at all. The 1-5 bundles were supposed to ship out early this week, but I haven't seen a single ship notification from anyone online. They may as well have not even sent that email; it just created expectations.

If the last two thirds of the movie are not as immersive and active in the additional channels then that is extremely disappointing and shows that Shout Factory doesn't even have access to digital multitrack stems that would have been made by Chace when they created the first surround mix of the film. The music score was a 16 track multitrack production, those synths should be completely enveloping the soundscape if they did it proper.

Sucks my Pre-order for the bundle hasn't shipped from Scream Factory. Looks like means unfortunately not going to have it on Release day!

Mine hasn't shipped yet and did get a pre-shipping notice from Shout that when shipped, it'll be through USPS.

Considering I bought all 5 films, each with their poster, I would think it'll get shipped via UPS.

You bought them all individually, or did you get the vinyl bundle? I'm pretty sure it was cheaper to get the vinyl bundle, so hopefully that's what you went for. The UHD+poster+vinyl bundle should ship via UPS, per their email.

Though my first reaction seeing them revealed was a video game line. And then it made me want a Halloween based video game. Closest we'll get is Michael Myers featured in Dead By Daylight.

Halloween III is my favorite, as well. I thought the Transformers Steel was plain in photos but in person it's a 10/10. If these covers are better in person, I'll be the first to admit it.

I bought them all individually; I could care less about the vinyl. When I bought the Friday the 13th collection which came with the nice looking poster, it came via UPS; as did the Child's Play special edition that also came with a poster.

This order (H 1-5) includes 5 rolled posters. It just makes more sense to receive it by UPS, as opposed to coming from the USPS vehicle.

Ah. I'm not sure I understand the economics of your decision though, given the aforementioned lower cost of the vinyl bundle. Even if you didn't want the vinyl, you could have sold them to offset the cost even more. In any event, Shout! did say in that email that orders without the vinyl would all ship via USPS.

Unless there was a sale I'm unaware of, the vinyl set was about $60 more than buying them individually.

Oh geez, I remembered that wrong. It was cheaper than buying all of the vinyl sets individually. My bad. You're right. Much less expensive to get them all individually without vinyl.

How was the aspect ratio? Cause the highdefdigest screenshots were either squished or the disc messed up the aspect ratio slightly and stretched the film horizontally. I've put my orders of these movies on hold as I wanted to make sure they didn't slip up.

Every one told me only the first two 3-disc sets have the sturdy cases. III, 4, and 5 have eco-cases cause they're 2-disc! I'm glad I only got I, II and III for now. I hate these cut out cases. If you swap these with your boxset I guess it doesn't matter much.

I love the H4 poster. I don’t care that it has the original mask. Looks so much better than the mask in the movie so at least I can pretend that’s how it looks when I see the poster. I just remember being creeped out by the cover when I was a kid and saw the VHS cover at video rental stores before I ever knew anything about the Halloween series.

Stopped in at my local Best Buy this evening to pick up my order for H1 and H2 that I placed last night, the cashier after picking my order from the bin said "Why we have had a ton of people coming in wanting these". Apparently they pulled the few copies of H1 left off their shelves since word came down earlier today that the street date had been moved to the 5th. They didn't have any H2 copies on the shelf but last time I checked it still has the original street date on the website. I do like the slipcases for them rather than slipcovers.
