They were originally made for 1080p SDR, so it wouldn't be "settling." The HDR UHD presentation is an after-the-fact enhancement. I want it too, don't get me wrong, but if it never happens this series is still well worth owning and looks amazing on Blu-ray.

Also HBO will be pimping this show for a decade, so I'm sure it'll come out. Just probably waiting to do a series set. Same thing happened for Sopranos on Blu.

No doubt they will milk Game of Thrones for all it's worth. The series will have some series legs after it is done, with the Game of Thrones prequel coming soon with Naomi Watts I am sure it will generate a lot of interest. No offence to Sean Bean, Game of Thrones has not had a megawatt as the lead before.

Is Watts that much bigger than Bean? I guess she is because of King Kong and such.

Yeah, this is one of the reasons I have passed of the season 1 UHD. I was burned by buying Seasons 1, 6 and 6 part II of Sopranos just to turn around and have to repurchase them as part of the complete series. I will never purchase another TV series by season. I will always wait until the series ends and purchase as a complete box set. There's always an issue with packaging when purchasing individual seasons too. One season's box is bigger or smaller than then next based on new packaging trends.

I'm surprised they didn't put Season 6 and 7 on 4K when they came out to be honest.

HBO/WB certainly takes their time with remastered box sets. We didn't have The Wire in HD at all until a few years ago.

I wouldn't be surprised if the series finishes airing before we get an update on other seasons in 4K.

4k wasn't as common back then as it is today, especially for TV shows.

I'm holding off buying this one purely because I like having the George W. Bush severed head Blu-ray edition. It's a de facto collector's item

You're going to be waiting forever because, it seems like Game of Thrones is never going to end.

Hopefully this post is a joke about the books.

Whilst I understand the reasons its sitting out the first season release for a box set that has probably hurt sales and stopped HBO from doing other seasons.

I doubt that. They have to know that people are holding out for the 4K complete series. They'll likely release it later this year.

I believe so too. And when the complete series 4K BD set is released I am definitely buying it even if it probably will be super-expensive. Some things like GoT are worth paying premium price!

Given its their cash cow, don't be surprised if they sell you Season 8 as a standalone only later this year...and hold a 4K Complete Series to tie in with the Prequel series whenever that launches on HBO. Its just "good business"...

If they release season 8 as 4K separately, they might as well do it for the rest of the seasons.

I'd assume something like this, yeah. Though the complete set already leaked with news of a new documentary, so perhaps they will put it out fast. Hard to say.

They could release a complete BD set and wait on a complete UHD set.
