I suspect a 4k box set of some sort will eventually be offered. I can wait awhile and see. I have upgraded these movies so many times already; I would prefer to do it all at once if possible.

I don't understand the whole double dipping issue. We do it in life all the time, but never really complain. Except when it comes to buying home media. Look at cars. Often times we may end buying the same car brand for a couple of cars or so. The car tweaks itself, but it is pretty much the same. Or how about televisions. That's a better example. We upgrade our televisions every few years to get the latest and the greatest. There are some major differences depending on when we buy our new televisions. And sometimes there are only minor differences. Still, we shell out thousands of dollars without batting an eyelash. But as soon as a new version of one of our favorite movies is announced on a new format or even the same format we cry foul. And movies cost less than televisions and cars. Don't get me started on cell phones. That right there is lunacy. Talk about double dipping.

I don't mind double dipping; I have been doing it for decades now. Still, I prefer to be as efficient and as cost effective as possible when doing it.
In May, Warner Bros gave us The Matrix in 4K. This October, just 5 months later, they are offering the entire trilogy in 4K. Could this same pattern apply to the Superman movies? In the case of The Matrix, I only wanted the first film as I never cared for the sequels, so I am unaffected by their marketing strategy. But with Superman, I really like the first two movies with their multiple cuts and I am neutral towards the third, fourth, and fifth installments. If a 4K box set is forthcoming here, I prefer to wait for it rather than to acquire these movies individually. Last edited by Vilya; 09-27-2018 at 10:16 PM. |

The only thing like Harry Potter is where only the theatrical gets released in 4K. |

Nostalgia goggles are on thick with this one. The moment those come off, Superman II falls apart. It completely messes with the emotional momentum the first movie establishes. Superman willingly defies Jor-El's mandate not to interfere with human history just to save Lois, but when he asks his holo-mom if he can marry her- she says he has to give up his power. She doesn't explain why. And he doesn't even ask! He just gives up his powers! It's even worse when you realize that Dick Donner's original idea was so much better. He had it so that Superman himself wanted to be a normal human man. He felt he had given the world enough and wanted the opportunity to settle down with the woman he loved. ALL THAT reasoning is hacked out of the theatrical cut, making Clark look like a major idiot. Not to mention all the weird shit at the end in the fortress of solitude. Superman III at least was like reaching into a comic box and plucking out a random issue of silver age Superman. He fights a supercomputer, puts out a fire at a chemical planet, and even faces off against his evil clone. Superman III might not be great, but it's a damn sight better than IV, and effortlessly on par with II. Don't even get me started on how shitty Lois Lane is as a love interest in these movies. I'll still buy em all on 4K lol. |

I’d rather watch Man of Steel than Returns. Snyder at least tried something different and didn’t quite succeed whereas Singer did nothing different and failed so hard, The Devil Wears Prada made more money.

I like Man of Steel more, but I think Superman Returns is a nice swan song to the pre 9/11 comic book movies. It should have done more, and done certain things differently, but what worked worked really well.

Also the financial success of a film doesn't dictate its worth, i.e. Blade Runner, Big Trouble in Little China, Children of Men, Shawshank Redemption, Fight Club, Tree of Life, The Iron Giant. I could go on... |

I will always remember the Saturday night sold out theater when I first saw this and the constant cheering and applause throughout the film. Bravo Christopher Reeve and company. A little kid's dream came to the big screen as a young man and the young lady with him. I will be extremely happy with the theatrical version memory in 4K....
![]() You had to be there to feel the electricity when he flew in the fortress in full costume for the first time. The kicking of the football was so incredible and wowed everyone there. |
