Stoked this is finally happening but I have some caveats:
-Please, please, please fix the color timing issues that were on the newer masters and don't introduce new ones with the HDR grade (and the same goes for both Burton Batmans for their 4K releases whenever that happens.) -All three original theatrically shown audio mixes should be represented. The Dolby Stereo 2.0 that is on the later releases and what most people heard that is audibly underwhelming and has little to no surround information other than bleed through-but it is original and should be maintained. The 70mm Dolby should be far better but few ever heard it. I'm pretty sure this was the source of the far superior Laserdisc audio mix I adore with the full mono to stereo opening title transition. The new Atmos mix is very likely done from the 70mm source and the lossy 5.1 is probably the SE mix with the new effects as they had already cut it to sync with the theatrical cut for DVD. It'd be nice to have the rare mono mix too which may include differences. I'm glad they are being historically accurate by going with the TC again as I think the SE was a step backwards-however it has been so widely available that I don't see why they could not scan the additional elements and branch a SE recreation in 4K. We're only talking about roughly ten minutes of material. So if we can at least get proper color with no teal infusion, and the original 70mm track untouched in an Atmos container then things will at least be pretty good. One could sync the 2.0 from the BD release for the Dolby Stereo if inclined.... But of course that would be too easy. You know there's going to be a technical issue somewheres...it always happens with this film on video. Lastly, while the cover is nice why can't we stick with the original image form the poster. Why must everything be modernized? Here it's especially distracting because the central original image has been transposed to a modern city backdrop. |

It does sound like the fellow from the LD forums with the incredible amount of cinema gear inside a HT. Myself and others have kinda given up but wonder if he's ok.

Truthfully probably most people saw it in mono.

EDIT: Okay, I just watched a cat take a shit on a copy of The Force Awakens, and now I'm questioning what I'm doing with my life. EDIT II: He's throwing Blade Runner 2049 in the cat litter. Why!? Last edited by dallywhitty; 09-28-2018 at 03:26 PM. |

I remember chatting to Andy on the OT forum a few times in the past (around 2010) and he seemed quite knowledgeable about all the different audio mixes, and was a little intense but seemed an OK chap.
It's sad that his mental health appears to have declined since then, I'm not not sure what his circumstances are, but I hope he is able to get the help he needs. Regarding the original laser disc, it really looks and sounds horrible now, I have re-visited it a few times. The original audio 2.0 mix on the theatrical dvd some years back wasn't much better, and so far the best I've heard the original mix sound recently is on the theatrical blu ray, which is superior because it has a higher bit rate. I'd love to hear the mix on this new UHD disc though. |
