No.

I still think the Shout is the best it's ever looked on home video, even with the weaker HDR10 presentation. But again, I'm still waiting for my discs to arrive, so this is all based on what the more knowledgeable posters in here have been saying, and based on what I've been seeing so far with my own eyes.

Sure the Lionsgate has better compression, and if that's the only thing you care about, go for it. But the Shout has better detail, better color, finer grain, and doesn't switch aspect ratios part-way through due to a mastering glitch. It's also got better extras.

This is simply not true.

If you don't see any more fine detail here (and it has nothing to do with the color), then I honestly don't know what to tell you. Stick with your old UHD. TBH, if you don't/can't see it, then there really *isn't* any reason for you to buy the new disc.

We can read street signs and License plates more clearly when we pause the disc now? O.K. good point.

What are we cops or movie fans ?

Eh...if your argument is that the new disc gives you "nothing that the Lionsgate didn't already show you", and challenge me to prove otherwise, then yes, it IS a good point. The only point, actually.

I can’t imagine what it would be like to be this nitpicky about a release at a time when physical media is no where near where it used to be.
Eventually genre films won’t get a disc release at all then what will people have to complain about.

The third option is to wait and see what gets released in Europe. That's what I'm going to do. The Lionsgate has its own issue and isn't the new master which is the better master, it's just been sloppily presented.

I hate the grain on DV on this title. I have sharpness turned all the way down and I still get awful flickering that I will sometimes see if I had my sharpness turned up…

This film does it worse then any other I have owned

HDR10 looks fine.

My old 4k DV has no flicker

But this one is almost like a strob light.

Raiders of the lost ark had a bit of this in DV. That’s when I turned sharpness all the way off… not that I had it high to begin with.

I wonder if I got a faulty disc. It’s really that bad.

Folks it's a nitpick to hold publishers to standards they project to represent. We should shut up and take what we're given, or not say anything at all.

Enjoy product, be happy about product, anything else is a nitpick and bad.

TBH, I truly feel sorry for some of these boutique labels that are trying valiantly to keep the days of the fully-loaded special edition alive even as PM is waning year over year. If ANYTHING isn't absolutely spot-on these days, people have the means to spot it, analyze it to death, and shout from every rooftop that everyone should just stick with the previous disc because of some SOMETHING that isn't right. You can have ten pluses to a new release and people will focus like a laser beam on the one or two negatives until it's seen as some insult to their home theater. I mean, just don't buy it if you don't want it. Heavens. I couldn't work for one of these companies. I'd lose my damned mind.

Well, that's a hard one to answer because they have two completely different sources. I believe the Broadcast audio is lossy (as is the extended cut 5.1 audio) and if I recall it does have a slight dated quality to it, as if the source has aged. It just doesn't sound as crisp as heavily filtered audio for the Theatrical Version and obviously nowhere near as good as the audio track from the Criterion Laserdisc.

In a general sense though, it sounds fine but it wouldn't work to try to substitute it for the included mono of the Theatrical version, if anyone was thinking of trying that.

There are the obvious edits that have been make to the audio for language but there are also a number of other changes as well, the most immediately obvious one being that certain music tracks are extended in a couple scenes. For example, the theme in the opening credits is extended past the actual credits, as well as the "black cats and pumpkins..." prelude and loops into the start of the first scene.

It's also mixed differently. Again to reference the opening scene, the dialogue between Judith and her boyfriend is audibly much louder than I remember it ever being. There's a line from Judith that goes something like "My parents won't be home until 10." On all prior releases that I've seen this line has been almost inaudible and the only reason I knew it was there at all was because of the subtitles. On the audio track for the Broadcast cut, you can hear it plan as day.

The shout factory has the actual mono soundtrack so that by default makes it the superior UHD release. And if you're sensitive to the color timing controversy, they have an older HD scan on disc 3.

Got all 5 today from Bullmoose. Every one is mint, with no loose discs. I’ve decided I’m going to start buying everything from them, assuming pricing is close. Thrilled with them so far.

I will take a slightly lesser source as long as the presentation of it is solid. I bet T2 in 4K is a great one because it shows more detail?

My local BB store still has them in stock. I'm thinking about picking them up and selling them off. I bought the records, but I can't wait much longer to watch them. Who knows when Shout will deliver.

Did anyone with loose discs end up having playback issues? Opened the case and the 4K and BD both were loose and fell to the floor. After popping them in and attempting to fix the artwork, they got loose again. The 4K looks like it has a good amount of scratches on it, but I’m not able to sit down and watch the movie right now.
