The compression. It is better than the Shout on this.

Yep. It does indeed reveal those lesser underlying levels of detail more effectively.

Granted this might be someone's opinion, but what do you think we should do here? Ask Shout! to do a replacement program (for all the discs?)?
If they did a replacement program, it wouldn’t sound any better. It’s still the same old mono track from the 2007 disc. It being a “lossy transcode” doesn’t really mean anything at all. That guy’s site also says that several other blu-rays, including ones released by Warner Archive, are also lossy transcodes.

Just did a heavy amount of scrolling. Couldn’t find an answer. Has anyone had their order shipped from Shout! ye? I bought the whole set with the vinyls minus the pins. Still says active for me.

It should be taken into consideration that the vast majority of experts weighing in the loudest on the subpar nature of this Shout disc, with its abysmal compression and defective audio, while chiming in ardently for folks not to purchase it, or expounding that they themselves refuse to purchase it, or calling for everyone else to send Shout emails of scathing disappointment, and/or to demand a replacement program, are the same folks that admittedly didn't even buy the disc or watch it, haven't seen anyone else's copy of it, and don't own it. And...won't buy it even if hell freezes over. It's pretty damned hard, however, to demand or participate in a replacement program for something you don't own and never paid for. It's even harder to be taken seriously when sending in a customer complaint to a company for its product, when you similarly have never bought it, don't have it, and have never seen it. "Hi, I didn't buy your stuff, but I heard that it sux, I saw a blurry picture of it, I want a refund, and a new disc with the following other features I want, and you suck. Now go fix it or else." That's really effective. I agree. Everyone that didn't buy the disc and has never seen it should definitely crush Shout to its knees with reams of scathing written reprimands for its horrid product, and get right in on the imminent replacement program that they'll implement for the folks that didn't buy it. Ah, it's all coming clear to me now..clear as muddy compression.

This is what a user wrote about 30 pages ago. Basically, they were still waiting on the vynil of the first Halloween to arrive to ship the bundles & whatever orders came with it. They had only shipped the individual orders with the posters. My Halloween 4 and 5 order shipped Monday from them

"As promised, here is an update on your Halloween order. As we monitor the shipping process, we will continue to send regular updates.

When we were first planning for these releases, we had hoped that supply chain pressures would ease up by the late summer of this year. Reality has been somewhat less forgiving, and we’ve been experiencing issues shipping from China, the European Union, and Mexico to get all of the parts together for these collectible offers.

As of today, the posters for these releases have been printed, the enamel pins and all of the 4K UHDs have arrived, and we have most of the 7” vinyl items in our warehouse. The two pieces we are still waiting on are all of the 7” vinyl for the original Halloween and 1,500 units of the black vinyl slipcase for Halloween II. This delay has kept us from being able to ship the most popular of the Halloween offers, and for that we do apologize. We expect 80% of all Halloween orders to ship by the end of this week, and if your order is among those that will not be shipped this week, we will send you an additional update by Friday.

The outstanding 7” vinyl for the original Halloween has cleared customs and we are waiting for clearance to pick it up. Once we get clearance, our warehouse has a truck ready to drive to the terminal, pick up the goods, and bring them back so we can start shipping orders with this vinyl immediately. We are still waiting for more information from the manufacturer about the outstanding vinyl slipcases for Halloween II and will update you as soon as we know more.

Orders for ONLY the 4K UHD and poster have now begun to ship. You will begin to see confirmation emails with USPS tracking information for these orders as soon as today, and we expect them to be fully shipped before the end of this week. If you’ve ordered either of the deluxe bundles containing all five Halloween films, please note that these will be shipped via UPS with a 2-6 day delivery window in the United States.

The good news is that everything has turned out even better than we expected when it comes to the pins, the vinyl, and the embossed slipcases featuring our newly commissioned artwork. We’re also delighted by the picture quality of our new 4K transfers for all five of the films, and we hope you’ll enjoy them as well.

Lastly, some customers have noted that certain Best Buy locations had Halloween out on store shelves as early as last week. We believe that the revised street date of October 5th was not properly communicated to every location and for that we are sorry. If you have or would like to purchase the product at Best Buy rather than through our site, please reach out to our customer service department and they will do their best to assist you in cancelling your order.

Again, we apologize for the delay and are working tirelessly to get you your order!

Regards,
Shout! Factory"

This is typical especially on this website. Some members just like to b***h and complain about every little thing, even when there's nothing wrong, or they're just too anal for their own good that it's only psychological. I pay them no mind because, the same ones who's doing all the complaining are going to buy the movie(s) anyway, so they can look in every nook and cranny under a microscopic eye, trying to find something wrong with it. Everybody wants to be a critic, that's the problem.

If you look at the Strode sign you can also see more detail in the new transfer as well.

Plus, y'know, the brighter areas of the Shout encode are just giant masses of macroblocks in those caps and aren't resolving grain at all, just boulders of digital artefacts. Yet in the darker areas of the Shout shots the grain looks perfickly resolved and damned near as "noisy" as the IP does, weird that. It's almost as if there should be fine, sharp grain there regardless and it's just the crappy encode smooshing it away?

Sarcasm aside, this really *is* like one StudioCanal's encodes that seems to lack any kind of optimisation for HDR, i.e. it's drastically lowering the bitrate on brighter areas because it thinks its doing SDR or something. What I mean is that it thinks there's no information in the brighter parts so don't worry about dropping the rate down, it gets clipped out anyway in SDR - except that this is HDR and one of its main features is exposing all that grain in the mid tones and highlights that's rolled off in SDR.

I have absolutely no doubt that the DV playback with the chunky enhancement layer literally rebuilding the signal makes it look FAR betterer than the HDR10 caps suggest, I wouldn't own most StudioCanal UHDs if it wasn't for the DV rebuild correcting some horrendous HDR10 compression and outright grading errors e.g. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...8#post15734038 and https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...9#post18396149 and https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...2#post15826682.

So I don't doubt that everyone watching in DV is having a great time (and even our resident pro cinematographer busting it down to 1080p SDR on his projektor, which will have its own effect on the visibility of the compression artefacts), but goddamn I thought we'd gotten past the days of the HDR10 base layers getting the shit end of the stick on DV discs.

So, if you have DV, go with the new release?

If you don't, go with the Lionsgate release?

Is that what I'm reading?

Do people have a right to contact Shout demanding a replacement program when they didn't even buy it? No. But do they have a right to post in here about it? Absolutely. And do they have a right to contact Shout and voice their disappointment in a particular issue surrounding the release, even if they haven't bought it? Absolutely.

I have skipped many a release (not just Shout and not just blu-rays/UHDs) due to knowing they screwed up big time on some aspect of the release, and there's nothing wrong with contacting the publisher to point it out to them in a friendly manner, letting them know you would like to purchase the product, but not until it's corrected.

How else are things ever going to get corrected when there are issues?

By the way, I bought all 5 - I'm just waiting for Amazon to decide when they want to ship them to me.

Not anything the Lionsgate didn't already show you. And what else is funny is that you guys think color correcting is more NEW detail Keep the HITS coming. It's only more detailed if you own the DVD or Blu-Ray. This is not The Shining with hidden details in every other shot. It's MM peeking in from the Left, Right, or Center which you can see on the TV and VHS copies as well.

What detail has been unveiled that you could never spot and were mystified with all these years over the Lionsgate? Entertain me. You won't but you can always try.

Yeah, we shouldn't expect QC on the most advanced home video format ever. We should just take whatever we get, and if there's mistakes, we shouldn't even contact the company over it.

The BBC screwed up two seasons of Red Dwarf on blu-ray - big time. After the usual push back and the persistence of those who understood the issue, they finally started listening, and agreed finally that the masters themselves were done wrong from the ground up, and they actually remastered those two seasons again and offered corrected discs.

That would not have happened without people contacting the publisher over the issue.

According to some in here, we should just accept whatever we get without even questioning it.
