I thought the old was Atmos because I didn't pay close enough attention when I backed up almost my whole connection in one month and named the audio tracks. I just corrected it from "Dolby Atmos with new sound effects" to simply "Dolby TrueHD 7.1." |

I’ve watched some very familiar scenes from both H1 and H2 on both my projector and 65” LG. Both look awesome. I’ve had these movies on all formats since the 80s and I can’t believe how good they look now. They practically look like new movies. Not only that but the audio is improved on most of these discs.

Taking into account my somewhat out-of-date equipment, I'm very happy with this release. Couldn't see compression artifacts in motion. Mono didn't sound overly weak. Incredible detail. Lovely colours.
To be honest, I've seen this movie so many times over the years, I wasn't really looking forward to sitting through it again. But it was a delight. Took me back twenty five years, the thrill of getting that Criterion CLV release in the mail and putting it on for the first time, finally getting to see the widescreen photography intact. So I guess it's ironic how excited I am to check out the TV cut now, haha |

Or maybe you could look at the top of the thread and see the Poll results for consensus view of the title?

Watched this last night with my daughter and had a blast!
Like most of you here, I have seen this a million times on all the various media versions that I've owned throughout the years( although I somehow never picked up the Lionsgate UHD). I loved everything about this disc's presentation on my setup. My projector is vanilla HDR and even so I'm skeptical about the technology on projectors in general. Nevertheless, I felt the image to be filmlike on my modest display sitting 10 feet from a 120"screen. I noticed no compression artifacts in motion, grain was beautifully rendered and shadow detail was not crushed. In fact my daughter gasped at the shot of Michael's face subtly emerging from the darkness beside Laurie's in the final act. She normally doesn't comment about transfer related things but this was her second viewing of this classic so we discussed things minimally throughout the movie. As far as the audio is concerned, we thoroughly enjoyed the new ATMOS track. Short of fixing the folly revisions, the track was otherwise as I would want it to be - largely restrained and front focused for much of the presentation, but wide and open for the score, and immersive, in the rain (maybe a touch too aggressive here, but not off-putting). When Judith's boyfriend is saying his goodbyes at the top of the stairs, the subtle line did not come from directly above me, but more accurately from a place between my right front channel and my right front ceiling channel revealing that despite most people's cries against revisionist crap, someone appears to have taken some care in fashioning this ATMOS track from the elements of the much maligned CHASE work. I truly hope that you guys get your unfiltered mono on the next release, but for me this surround track is proof that ATMOS can be done right from older stems without being gimmicky. I suppose those shaking their heads at me are just as incredulous as I am at the thought of listening to a movie through headphones on a TV... To each their own. Now onto H2018, before KILLS in PEACOCK next Friday night! |

Did anyone notice how you can hear most dialogue and music very quietly in the background a second or two before it actually plays in the Broadcast TV version?
It's very distracting in some scenes. For example, at the very beginning of the movie when it shows the light flick off in Judith's room and you hear the stinger sound effect, you can actually hear it in the distance before it actually plays. I was really waiting a while to see this TV vesion, so it sucks that I have to hear this "double soundtrack". It's kind of annoying. It happens all throughout the movie. |

Not sure anyone is still debating the color, but I thought this cap was a good tell. If you lived through the 80s and 90s those denim jackets should be burned into your visual memory, and they definitely look more like the Shout. Of course this goes back to realism vs. film and all that, but just an interesting thing I randomly noticed. Those jackets definitely shine bluer.
