Shipping label created on the 14th and then nothing since.

Went looking through the other BDs and noticed there is also one on the Halloween II Blu Ray, but not on any of the others.
There's actually two on part II.

First one: Click up on play movie.

Second one: Click up on the first bonus feature.

The photo is from the previous release. It is even greener now.
Anyway, this release is spectacular! Wow!

Criterion went back to the Original 35MM Magnetic Master Mono Soundtrack (D/M/E) for the Laserdisc release. It is the original audio mix of the film.

For the Shout 4K UHD release of the film, they used a digital source created in 1999 from Anchor Bay & Chase Productions using the same master tape. The difference is Chace added excessive and unnecessary processing to the mix (Noise Reduction, Compression/Limiting and bad EQ choices like High Pass Filtering). Criterion's transfer is most likely more faithful to the source, it sounds like little to nothing was done other than a straight A/D conversion.

"Sunny daylight (as in, standard middle-of-a-cloudless-day lighting) is a bit colder...Cloudy light is colder still, and shady light is very cold."
https://www.photoworkout.com/color-t...n-photography/

It's very obvious there's no direct sunlight...it's all soft. Sure there is shade under the trees but if there was direct sunlight out there, all of that shading would mostly look black (we wouldn't be able to see as much detail in the shade as we do here.)

Look at Jamie, she's not casting any shadow because the light is all soft (sun behind clouds.)

It's possible it might be partly cloudy (some clear blue sky mixed with some clouds that cover the sun every now and then, but it looks to me during that shot, everything is dulled down and the lighting in most part looks even.

In real life a RR sign will look dull under clouds. Even so, with the naked eye that sign will look more yellow, but photographed with daylight film under that type of lighting (cloudy being even more colder...bluer) will exaggerate onto film what we see in real life.

Now take that RR sign and surround it with lots of green foliage under soft cloudy light and record that onto daylight film and what we end up with is what you see.

That whole scene is soft which in many ways is ideal for photography. Once captured with low contrast (which contains all details in dark and bright areas) it is then possible to adjust the final results to one's liking whether it be low or high contrast, low or high color saturation and of course shifting of colors.

Anyone can experiment with a film camera. Take a picture onto daylight film of a yellow sign in shade surrounded by green foliage and see how it turns out. With a digital camera the results will turn out similar if subject and conditions are the same (with the digital camera's white point or color balance) set at 6500K.
i missed the sign and the railroad it is warning about

It is how Anchor Bay & Chace Productions handled the audio sources of the film that make them sound how they are. In my prior post I explained how the Original Mono Mix was treated. For the surround mix, Chace did go back to the original multitrack tapes but they treated them in the exact same fashion as they did with the mono mix: Excessive Noise Reduction, excessive use of compression/limiting and bad EQ choices (specifically the use of High Pass Filters). Combine that with cheesy new foley effects created by Chace Productions and botched/missing effects and queues and this is what we have been listening to for every release since 1999.

The mixes can be fixed, one can be done very affordably and most likely in 1 work day (new A/D transfer of the mono mix). The other would be a huge undertaking in cost, labour and time (new surround mix) and no label will be interested in doing that when they think the work from 1999 was satisfactory. You should be able to search and find the Criterion Laserdisc Mono Mix very easily if you want a better audio source. And if you want the company to address the mix in a future release, contact Shout Factory. I sent them an email regarding the mono mix and they replied back stating that they will address this issue the next time they release the film and that they appreciate feedback and take all comments into consideration to help with compiling future releases. I just hope that they will follow through and obtain a better sounding source for the next time.

I just got off the phone with my son. To his shock, I asked him to put THE SEASON OF THE WITCH disc from the box set in to our upstairs player. I didn't ask him to watch any of it, but he confirmed that it played and he was able to select the movie. After all the crap I've done to that disc it works..

Yesterday, I looked at my new 4K discs for parts 1,2 and 4. They all had scratches on them. I have no idea if they showed up that way or whether I messed them up myself. I've watched part 1 twice, part 2 once and got halfway through part 4 before deciding that this is no longer my favourite timeline.

I get that some of you are concerned about long term playability but for me, this just isn't an issue. While I'd go mental if my new disc was too glitchy to play right out of the box because of an initial scratch, I've come to realize that there will never be a last time I purchase the original.

I usually cart off a bunch of old discs to the local thrift shop for donation but as it stands, I currently have the 40th anniversary disc (played once), the box set version (played twice, maybe 3 times) and this new UHD.

I'm keeping the boxset because I'll never buy anything from part 5 onward again. The 4K of part 4 will be the last time I buy that title.

I'll probably upgrade the Zombie entries when they hit 4K and the new trilogy.

despite all that has been said about the audio shortcomings of the various releases of Halloween, especially dvd/blu ray era, the answer to that is still yes

if you strip it down to the source elements then that is what there is to work with for all releases of the movie

I would say season of the witch had better audio everything (actual better not just better better) .. more expensive mics, better tech in general (it came out later), bigger budget. So yes the source elements are going to be of higher quality which would result in a more substantial, bigger sound. yes more juice! A great descriptive word by the way

I heard one of the reasons why the Dolby Vision is very much worth your time, is the colour timing of movie was tweaked.

Did you update the firmware on your 820? There was a recent update pushed to Panasonic 4K players to fix flickering issues with Dolby Vision.

Any chance we'll be seeing these Shout! Halloween 4Ks released in the UK in the future?

Looks like my preferences are going to end up being H1 Shout 4K, H2 Shout 2021 BD, H3 Shout 4K. With H2, a tradeoff of glitches vs a bit less detail and less sharp grain.

By Shout? No; they're not a UK-based company and their licensing agreements are only for the US and Canada.

By a different company? Perhaps. Koch in Italy put out a 1-8 box set that utilized most of the features from Shout's sets, for example.

What glitches are so bad that you would rather watch the Blu-ray version of the movie as apposed to the Ultra HD Version?

Fixed some issue with another movie called Knives Out and a temporary freeze from another movie and other Dolby Vision related issues when it comes to playing certain movies.
