As this is Lionsgate’s UHD transfer then I assumed it was the same downmix heard on their UHD. Nope, it’s the OG mono alright…and it sounds so bad. Not at all. Halloween has never been perfect on home video (well...the Criterion laserdisc was quite good but looks dated now). Ever since the digital era of home video, there seems to be a common compromise with the color timing of each of the major releases. If the day time scenes look good, the night time scenes suffer, and vice versa. People tend to point at the THX DVD as the best color timing, but I'm quite fond of Shout's 4K color timing myself...which they had to fumble the ball with the compression, seeming only one step above a StudioCanal release. I also liked the color timing of the 2007, as it gave the film a more Autumn time feel (I know, filmmaker's intent, blah blah). The only one I can say I dislike is the 2013 Blu. Regardless of being supervised by Dean Cundey, the colors are neutral at best and close to gray scale at worst.

Haven't heard anyone say it was, I'm pretty sure it's exactly like the disc SF used in their Halloween box, which is identical to how the transfer appears on the '07 blu.

It's just different. If you treat it as a new slasher film with zero expectations I think it works great as its own movie.
