They were oblivious to human behavior and feelings, and Skynet was just a processor housed in a computer. Salvation is a mad max pg13 ripoff with silly action figures like transformers, robot eels and motorterminators, capped with Spiderman music.

And Helena Bonham Carter as Skynet doing annoyed faces!!! Ugh. Such a far cry from Camerons plaon cold reactor from T2 3D

All the ideas in it go against everything I love in the first 2 movies, kind of like Resurection for me but Salvation ruins the mythology so much for me it becones my most hated movie ever and as stupid as The Predator

Such opportunity to do Terminator future war and instead they made a Mad Max ripoff with transformers, rpbot fish and motorcycles with eyes. Theres what, three terminators in the entire movie and briefly? Two of which have anything to do? The rest are either transformers or silly Kenner figures. No other setting than desert, no plot, no villain even, just a stock up Helena Bonham Carter appearing briefly. Its basically a ripoff of Mad Max and nothing but a walkthrough video game
You’re right in a lot of aspects and I agree. But I still liked it as a movie in general, just a shame it wasn’t more like a Terminator movie but at least they tried to do something different.

Streamed this one last night, as I couldn’t justify a blind buy given all the negative comments on it. Well, I’m glad it was just a rental. I enjoyed it, but not enough to want to own it. I was really looking forward to seeing Linda Hamilton back in it, but she was horrible, IMHO.

I had an issue once with my LG player where it didn't turn on HDR for Rambo 1-3. I think I narrowed it down to switching from an SDR source while the player was already on, or something like that. Worth checking maybe.

I exchanged the disc today and still have the same issue, so it isn't the disc. My Denon receiver for some reason isn't reading HDR being output even though the UB820 says it is. No other discs give me this issue, so I will try your suggestion and see what else I can find. Thanks

What I love most about this film is the inevitability of AI in society, that
[Show spoiler]Skynet wasn't the endgame
of AI, but just the beginning. I think from a narrative point, that was a great direction!

^^ but it would have been better if they just continued it with skynet in the backround... Skynet would have evolved and there was no need to make up a new AI legion.

Also idk how those future war scenes work because humans seemed to have tech way beyond war scenes seen in T1&T2

Also so did legion, why didnt they just send one of those ball terminators back in time that could fly?

I do like the fact that judgment day is inevitable because technology goes forward anyways. First seen kn T3

The new future is farther in the future than the future in the old movies. Some people think moving past John and Skynet is disrespectful to the old movies, but the timelines on that stuff just don't make sense anymore for a sequel made in 2019.

As a terminator sequel apologist I have no problem admitting how superior the sarah connor chronicles are to t3, salvation, gen and dark fate. I feel dumb for not watching it sooner. God bless Lena Headey.

Blind buy and I have a lot to say. I'm a massive Terminator fan and like most, my fandom died after part 2 but I still followed the sequels because I like the universe.

Let's get the UHD stuff out of the way. Excellent release. Great visuals, great HDR, great sound. Not quite demo material but close.

As for the movie....I was shockingly surprised how much I liked it. It's certainly flawed and I have several nitpicks but if you turn your brain off, it's a fun sci-fi flick and I do think it's the best Terminator since T2.

For the pros and cons. I'll spoiler tag just in case. This is going to be a long one...

[Show spoiler]

I already had the opening spoiled but the CG work here was great with a young Linda and John. Still had a bit of uncanny valley going on but it was still impressive and did its part of selling that part of the story. Also, I really liked the movie opening with the old Linda T2 footage. It started the movie off on the right note and tone.

Linda and Arnold were fantastic. I was worried going in that Linda was going to phone it in but she slipped right back into a believable Sarah Connor after nearly 20 years. She had some really good dialogue, her acting was on point and I loved her interaction with Carl. I also loved Carl's dry humor.

Arnold was sympathetic strangely and I love the idea of a terminator without a purpose and trying to find meaning with life. I thought it was pretty touching him raising a family of an abused wife and her son and then sadly saying goodbye to them.

Grace was a cool character and I liked her attitude. The sending people/robots from the future to the past is getting old but it was interesting having an augmented human character this time.

I also really like the actor playing the Rev 9. I had heard a lot of people say they didn't like him but I thought he was intimidating and had some of the best kills in the franchise. It was a little too close to Robert Patrick's T-1000 performance but it makes sense with this being an upgraded model of that.

As for the negatives, the story wasn't very good and felt like a reboot to the story. Linda and John saved 3 billion human lives but ultimately it didn't matter since Legion just took Skynet's place. That rubbed me the wrong way and I can't stand when newer sequels seemingly make their past movies pointless. John was the leader of the resistance - period. They should have honored that. Dani could have been equally important or next in line but erasing John like that was trash.

Dani was just not believable as this future leader and badass leader. At least not in a single movie. There just wasn't enough time to build up her arc. I did like her snapping at the end and killing the Rev 9 but I think she should have remained afraid and unknown of her future the entire time like Sarah did in T1. The ending of her killing the Rev 9 should have been the awakening. It was just hard to believe her going from a normal girl to a tough soldier in 2 hours.

My biggest complaint though - the over the top action. I LOATHE this crap. I'm completely numb to huge set pieces, cartoony physics, huge explosions and bad CG. The movie had this weird issue where there was some amazing CG followed by CG that didn't look like it was finished. There was no weight to the attacks. I don't want to see someone go flying 30 feet when they get hit. Less is more and I think this movie would have benefited incredibly by having a gritty and realistic terminator and realistic action.

I think you have the T-1000 to blame as you can't really downgrade from that anymore. It has to be better. To me, Terminator was at its best when you had this metal robot coming to kill you. You could take its legs off and it's going to crawl after you. It's scary and believable.

I just can't have any emotional investment in this robot that can morph into anything and is completely overpowered and virtually unstoppable. It's just too unrealistic. Especially with the physics.

Anyway, I thought the slow/non-action parts were tremendous and while the action was entertaining, was way too over the top and brought the entire movie down. It really could have been a thoughtful movie and a classic but had too much modern influence.

I'll go 6/10 but it could have easily been a 7/10 with some minor improvements.

I never finished the TV series although I remember enjoying the episodes that I saw. I'll have to revisit it someday. So many movies and shows on my backlog...

Has anyone redeemed the HD Digital Copy in VUDU? Is it one of those HD codes that redeems in 4K?

It's the lenticular plate from the BBY Exclusive Blu-ray, trimmed slightly, and installed onto the 4K slipcover.

Everyone keeps saying how awesome it is, but reading about it to me it sounds similar to the DC shows on TV right now, kind of silly, soap opera style and juvenile. I'm probably completely wrong though, I guess. I'll watch it someday.

Its dated in some aspects but I love lena's performance and it does more interesting stuff with the mythos than any of the non james cameron films. I don't watch dc shows so I can't compare. Its a safe bet if you enjoy her acting and the films.
