The glitch on HII made me hold off on buying it altogether and the encoding on Halloween 1 is pretty subpar. The rest of them are very solid. Had I known the GOAT FiM would eventually do these, I would have held out but the Scream releases are still very worthy in my opinion.

I never picked up the Shout 4Ks so I ordered the Imprint set. I also save money by not having to buy a pumpkin & candle as I can display this in the window instead

I think the hate for the Shout 4Ks is overblown. People really hate on the artwork, but - if they bother you that much - you can just sell off the slipcases for a pretty buck, and flip the sleeves to showcase the theatrical posters.

The missing legacy features from the original film are more-or-less redundant from the other documentaries and featurettes. The mono track isn't as good as Criterion's, but it's not like it's a crappy downmix or anything. It's a serviceable track that gets the job done.

imo, the only egregious issue outside of the DV glitch on Halloween II is them forgetting to port over some of their own content for Curse of Michael Myers.

No. The Scream releases will do just fine until either Arrow or Second Sight get the UK rights which is pretty much an inevitablility at this point.

III is still the only one of the Shouts I have, which I got in one of the random sale price glitches for like $15. I still have the original and II just on old Blu-rays waiting for the prophecied perfect 4ks. And I don’t like 4 and 5 so I don’t need this set at all, but I’ll be there right away for solos of 1 and II and/or eventual Arrow versions!

This. Cracks me up when people go off on that terrible original art Shout commisioned, 'cuz I ditched that awfulness Day One, flipped that sleeve and have been enjoying the classic poster art on my shelf for years now.

They're missing extras. The encoding is not very good, saved only by Dolby Vision, and even then they have brightness fluctuations depending on player and TV. The obvious titty glitch in HII. Happy to have them, but there's a lot of room for improvement.

I'm not happy at the price of this Imprint set, and I'd prefer a standard set, but for me, it's justified. Plus, I can probably sell the pumpkin packaging, if I so feel like it, for a pretty penny.

Exactly what I did. Got a pretty good amount for those ugly slip boxes too.

Yeah, the encode for Halloween is pretty shit. And since 1-5 were some of SF's earlier discs, I get those weird brightness shifts when playing them back in DV (their 4Ks of 6-8 are unaffected as those came later).

Been wanting to replace 1-5 for some time now. Glad there's finally an alternative.

The horrific art is still on the disc face. There’s no losing that. And then the disc itself (speaking about the 1978 original, which is the only one that matters to me) has shoddy encoding. Those are two major strikes against Shout’s 4K.

Even though Imprint’s price tag is prohibitive, I’m still glad I never validated Shout’s treatment with a purchase; I can sleep at night knowing I never gave in to that. I still feel that the artwork they went with—which was widely criticized all over the internet upon its first appearance, to the point that they were asked about it in an interview—is profoundly disrespectful to the original film. I’m just speaking as someone who’s loved it since 1987 when I somehow convinced my mom that I, as an 8-year-old, should own a copy of the Media VHS. That key art is absolutely iconic (and I never use that word), and for Shout to disregard that and go with what they went with is personally offensive to me. But that’s just me. Clearly other people have faaaaaar more lax taste (to put it politely) when it comes to these things, and I’m fine with being mocked as ‘pretentious’ or autistic or whatever, I don’t care.

Gonna pass on the set. I've spent a bunch recently on other stuff so I'm cutting back rn.
FiM encode is neat but that besides that, nothing really jumps out to me.

A few years ago I managed to win an ebay auction of the first 3 Scream Factory 4Ks for $31 so I'm good.

I asked this last night but didn’t get an answer—has Imprint ever gone back and released standalone versions of films they’d initially released only in a box set? Someone else mentioned it would be odd for them to pay for licensing these 5 films only to include them in a limited edition set (which will very soon be sold out—maybe their fastest selling release or box set ever). Surely they have the Aussie rights for… a while. At least a couple years, right? Once this sells through, wouldn’t they want to release these individually?

Thoughts?

Have they ever done it? Yes. Is it common? No.

That said, when they released the Hitchcock sets they made it very clear that they would be limited-edition-only releases, and I see no such warning here. Given how limited it is, and how ridiculous the packaging is, I think some sort of follow-up is likely, though whether or not it would be individual releases is another question entirely.

They did release a steelbook version of their NeverEnding Story 4K/BD set this year obviously without all the tat and the set loses the 4K disc of the German cut as well as the disc for Life After NeverEnding Story.

There is no way Imprint put up the cash to license the first five Halloween films just to release 1,000 box sets. I’d bet the farm there’s a standard set coming once this set is gone.

I guess the question is, how long will they wait to release these 4Ks again in a simpler edition, and can I make it through another Halloween watching just the 2007 Blu-ray? Ha. The peace of mind it brings knowing that there’s now an FiM-encoded disc of the 1978 original along with the art I’ve always wanted to go with it and none of the artwork I really don’t want, is quite substantial.

No way to know for sure, but I can guarantee you’re going to have to suffer through at least one more Halloween before it happens.

That plastic pumpkin and the case won't survive shipping either imo. This is going to be a disaster to import. Also how stupid is it to buy this and still need Shout Factory discs, lame. A full 1-8 set at that price maybe, throw in the RZ films probably would be a must have. This is an epic FOMO grab, good for Imprint though.
